This movie could have been incredible with a different writer. Josh Harnett is so perfect in this role that it definitely makes you think something different is going on because his performance seems like it belongs in a much better film. I hope they make a trap 2! lmao

I feel like the movie was sort of an excuse for M Night to promote his daughter's music career lmao

This could have been an incredible movie. The concept of the killer at a concert and cops closing in - a game of cat and mouse - could have been amazing. Sadly he jumped the shark.

This review perfectly articulates why I like M Nights films. He makes weird unique premises for his movies (for better or worse) and they have an oddly awkward feel to them, but I can’t help but always be excited to see what new weird thing he’s cooked up and I always enjoy myself when watching his movies.

The inspiration for this film is an actual law enforcement action in the 80’s . Operation flagship - NYC law enforcement invited 300+ criminals to win prizes at a stadium . They even dressed up as football players, mascots, hotdog vendors (all heavily armed ) . Then the cons arrived, they announced ‘surprise ‘ and busted them all ! I think in total 151 crim8nals were taken into custody . Bizarre I know . But it really happened .

I was really hoping for an unhinged reveal that this was somehow in the unbreakable cinematic universe.

It went on a little too long in that third act but glad to see Josh back in bigger movies. I adore Lucky Number Slevin and 30 Days of Night. Trap: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this movie and enjoyed the roller coaster ride that we took with Cooper on his journey from total sociopathy to a reveal of found humanity he didn’t know existed.

We watched it last night. It was pretty goofy. M. Night probably at his peak efficacy as a filmmaker. However, there is a rumor that this film was constructed to launch his daughter's music/acting career.

It is no coincidence that Hayley Mills best known from The Parent "TRAP" is in this movie! 🤔🙆🙋‍♂🕵

Didn't also Shyamalan's daughter Ishana release her directorial debut "The Watchers" this year?

I laughed out loud several times during this movie. But I feel it’s more bad than so bad it’s good.

I was the only one in the theater, I don’t see the problem, I mean sure he’s promoting his daughters music that’s one thing but honestly it added a little
Bit of a mixture to the plot. Josh was great in the film you can see why he chose Josh it’s because he’s isn’t afraid to take risks and make a fool of himself with script that so so cliche but so meh he still makes it look good i definitely enjoyed this over old. M Night is all about taking risks and not caring of what ppl say or think he’s gonna make what he wants to make. I’d give it a solid 5.7 out of 10

Trap is a great movie experience. M.Night Shyamalan delivers a ridiculously entertaining thriller packed with twists, turns and surprises from start to finish. The selling point is Josh Harnett as the butcher, a distinguished performance from the seasoned actor, Shyamalan‘s audacious script gives Harnett the ability to cut loose in role. Blurring the lines between denial and insanity, Harnett is utterly engrossing as the infamous Butcher. The supporting cast do an affable job in their respective roles, particularly Ariel Donoghue as the Butcher’s daughter. The father/daughter relationship adds complex layers to the character of Butcher. The film isn’t perfect. The film isn’t perfect, during the second half he looses his grip on fluidity, relying too much on radical plot conveniences, that get quite silly and comical by the film’s end. Nonetheless the story ends with a very clever twist. If you can ignore the lack of logic, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the film’s ability to keep you guessing. Shyamalan maintains a healthy amount of suspense throughout. It’s worth watching once. I had a great time and I can’t wait to watch it again.

I feel your review perfectly summarized my thoughts while watching the movie. This is a somewhat silly but genuinely fun thriller that shouldn’t be taken too seriously (I was almost ready for Josh Hartnett to break the fourth wall and wink at the camera). There are many callbacks, both thematically and directorially, to Hitchcock and De Palma.

I believe Shyamalan is purposely avoiding the more restrained and serious approach of his early career, knowing that anything he makes will be unfavorably compared to The Sixth Sense or Unbreakable. Instead, he’s just having fun within the genre he loves most (as you pointed out).

I also agree that we leave the movie knowing next to nothing about what drives Josh Hartnett’s character, which is a shame, as I too feel like a little more background on him would’ve elevated the movie.

Regarding the premise, though, as others have pointed out, even if it feels absolutely preposterous, the movie is actually inspired by a real event that took place in 1985, called “Operation Flagship, ” in which the FBI tried to lure thousands of fugitives with the ruse that they had won free tickets to an NFL game.

All things considered, I really enjoyed the movie! Also, great review!
