India: Kerala Landslides Kill Over 90, Several Feared Trapped | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Torrential rains triggered landslides in the Indian state of Kerala, killing more than 90 people. Several others are feared to be trapped under the debris. This comes after heavy rainfall collapsed hillsides, triggering catastrophic mudslides and debris flows. As per reports, most of the victims were tea estate workers and their families who were asleep in makeshift shelters. At least 250 people have been rescued so far and the army has been deployed to help with the relief operations. The Kerala government has declared two days of mourning. Tuesday's landslides are the state's worst disaster since the deadly 2018 floods claimed nearly 400 lives.
