The reason is because of high rainfall in short period of time.. The land beneath got saturated with water and hence got slided

It is not landslide but mudslide, both are different. And the origin of wayanad mudslide is in the river's origin where there is no constructions, and its inside the forest in the mountain. Massive water and mudflow caused to 350+ people's death washing out of two villages entirely. The reason is not construction but heavy rain in a limited period of time. And this were been also happend in 1984 in the same place, in that time there was no constructions. And also a bigger and similiar incident which caused death of 1000s of people in 1924 which is known as great flood of kerala 1924, mudslide is now becoming a comon phenomenon in kerala due to the increased rain since 2017. The only solution is to survey the dangerous hillsides and relocate them to the safe areas.

In kerala moonsoon rains occur at mountains and plain coastal areas. The huge flow of mountain rainwater and heavy downpour in coastal plains with high tides in coastal belts leads to flooding . One solution is to make tunnels from dams in high mountains to Water starved Tamilnadu side and by this surplus rainwater can be gainfully diverted as hydroelectricity and irrigation water will fetch revenue for kerala

Surplus water from kerala dams can be diverted to water starved areas bordering Tamilnadu so that mud flows and landslides do not occur. Also flooding in coastal areas can be prevented

Urban polluters are also responsible for global climate change, which causes heavy rainfall and sudden ecological disasters. Whenever a disaster occurs, these contributors to global pollution blame native farmers (hill and forest areas) and fishermen (sea shore), who have been coexisting with nature for years, while lecturing them on preserving it. This is not a disaster caused by native people, but by global climate change and natural phenomena. Instead of accusing farmers govt should take actions to reduce gloabl warming
