Eliud Kipchoge is the greatest marathoner of all time. He is the marathon world record holder and two times Olympic gold medalist. Recently I had two conversations with Eliud, one recorded Zoom and I got an opportunity to join my friend Lewis for a coffee with Eliud in Eugene, OR. He has been a huge inspiration to me, in training, racing and daily life.

We discuss Eliud’s strategies for success, running advice for non elite runners and his new Universal Pictures movie, "The Last Milestone”. This is an incredible film that documents his journey of successfully attempting to break the 2 hour marathon mark and leave his place in history.

I love how he always says "we ran" . It shows how much he values his team and specialists.

“Enjoy, when you are running, please enjoy.” It seems like Kipchoge is always relaxed and smiling when he runs. It’s funny to me that a lot of people view running as a kind of masochistic torture but for me, it’s the best part of my day. It’s so important to take pleasure in it.

“Improvement goes hand in hand with dedication” love this quote and it really speaks to the way he is and it inspires me so much.

Great interview! My biggest takeaway was the following quote, “In running and in life, it’s important to grow slowly, to be patient, but above all, be consistent in training.”

Breaking the sub 2 hour marathon is arguably the greatest athletic achievement of all time. Super

I just love this man. Dear mr. Kipchoge, you don’t just inspire the youth, you inspire this middle aged, very average runner. Especially coming back after a long injury, your advice to be consistent and patient in training, not just to improve but to stay injury free, is so relevant and practical. Thanks for being so humble and be able to speak to us mere mortals who won’t be breaking any records but who just want to run and enjoy it.

He literally runs double my slightly pushing running speed but over 26 miles, I can maintain my pace for 5km, non runner's do not understand how good this man is.

Here is my takeaway, I have always found that a focus on enjoyment was the best way for me to improve in my running. When i have pushed too hard or put pressure on myself i have found it can turn the whole process into a real slog.So it's really great to hear the advice from Kipchoge on "just enjoying your running¨ which is something i have found to be true myself.Great interview and keep up the great work Floris.

"In running and in life. It's important to GROW SLOWLY, to be PATIENT but above all, BE CONSISTENT in training" So true! Patience with your body is very important so you don't get an overuse injury or worse and can therefore be consistent in training and see the improvement we all want to see!

Enjoy when you are running and Marathon is life. I don't usually get inspired by other people, but sometimes you see a few that are full of positive energy and they literally "infect" you with that positivity and wisdom.

Thank you so much for the interview! i just came back from my run and was somehow frustrated because my heartrate was not as low as I‘d like to have it. So hearing Eliud saying ‚You will improve‘ definetly motivates me to keep going! Lost 22kg in 3 months so also doing something right :)

What I like about this person is that he always talks about "we" not "I" like most athletes.. he speaks of team work and success not individual achievements

"Start your training and finished it". This will go a long way and deep to motivate me to achieve my last running goal - achieve a sub-3hr Marathon before turning 50!

Distance running could not have a better ambassador than Eliud Kipchoge, he is such an incredible human being. Thank you for conducting and posting this interview, it was fantastic, you are a great interviewer, and you couldn't have asked for a better guest!

Great interview Floris. My main takeaway, apart from consistency, is to enjoy every run. I think we often forget that when we get too caught up in times, PBs and Strava. At the end of the day, we run because we enjoy it!

His humility is incredibly refreshing. I love Maffetone running for much of what Eliud advocates. It is so enjoyable. So revitalizing and rewarding to motor forward with an efficient body and gratuitous mind. Thanks for the interview

He is at peace with himself. This to me is the greatest gift, one that seems reachable for all but rarely achieved. Thank you, great video.
