I've never been able to do push ups (my arms have always been skinny and weak) and after trying it out, I did a half push up! I was halfway down to the ground, ive never gotten so close! Im sure if I practice more, I'll be able to get my first full push up. Thanks!

Edit: Dang, I wasn't expecting I'd get so many replies!
Firstly, I'd like to thank every single person who shared tips and words of encouragement! I have managed to get to 5 good knee push ups! Let's go guys! 💪🏼
For those who are wondering, yeah, I am a girl. I'm not a super skinny or thin person. I weigh 60kg. My arms are just the body part that gains the least weight or muscle, so I have to work extra hard for them.
For the criticism, I appreciate the tough words, and some of them are fair, I'm working harder. For those who straight up slander and make fun of boys and girls who aren't as strong as others, you guys need to take time to reflect and love people better.
To clarify, I'm a girl, and I've been sporty my whole life ever since I was a little kid. I play mostly football (soccer) ahd cycle, so those who make fun of people with weak arms, we could probably lift you with our legs without a sweat. I also got injured, had 2 surgeries, and stopped playing competitively during the pandemic, and it's taken time to bounce back. I'm currently exercising weekly and going to physio. I'm not sharing this for a sob story or pity, I'm sharing this because as some of you have said, you dont know peoples stories. Stop being unempathetic and be humble and kind.
For those who are beginners in pushups like me, we've got this! Come back and update your comment once you get your full push up and say, "blu, you skinny lad, I did it"
God bless you all.

Schools need to teach this, seriously. Kids everywhere were probably doing it correctly without even realizing it, and there are so many who get discouraged that they can't do it just because they didn't intuitively discover the correct mechanisms.

Another tip I've heard of was to try to push the ground down instead of pushing yourself up (just like Chuck Norris). This works the chest instead of shoulders.

WOAHHH THIS WAS WAY MORE EFFECTIVE THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE LOL

A couple tips, pull your shoulders back, as if you were trying to squeeze your shoulder blades together, while also poking your chest out, and instead of planting your hands on the ground use dumbbells, grip them like youre doing hammer curls and place them on the ground where you would normally place your hands to do a pushup it gives you like an extra 1-2 inches at the bottom of the pushup. Maintain your shoulder position and go extremely slow especially towards the bottom of the pushup. Lean in and really feel the stretch at the bottom. I promise ten of those pushups will wreck your chest more than a hundred normal pushups. This is my go to method and i used to not be able to do pushups at all because of issues in my rotator cuff. Always remember 100 fast pushups with bad form will never be as effective as even 5 slow pushups with good form. Also I'm not recommending you try this if you have shoulder problems or an injury, this isnt an end all solution if you have problems with your shoulders, and just because it worked for me doesn't mean it will be safe for you so talk with your doctor before you try anything.

This dramatically improves the way my shoulders feel while doing pushups. I also can perform quite a lot more reps because my chest gets much better activation

Thank you so much for this, this is huge for me! My whole life I've wondered why pushups tire my arms out instead of my chest. I tried different hand positions, using dumbbells to keep the wrist straight, all that stuff. Today your video showed me that this was the thing I was missing. Doing pushups using what you just taught me, my arms barely strain now and it's my chest where I feel the workout. You've just improved my workouts immensely!

The fun part about pushups is that you can place your hands anywhere to hit any part you want. Regular pushups are boring. I'll do 5 reps and hop stagger my hand placements. I've done like a thousand different variations that hit everything. What helped me personally is doing them with my eyes closed and just paying attention to how my body is balanced. Same with pullups, squats, etc. Creating a mental image of what I'm doing has helped me immensely! Using resistance bands has played a huge part of figuring this all out.

Guys do this shit on pull ups and lat pull downs, fully retract your shoulder blades and pulling yourself up is so much easier and smoother

Mah guy, I friggen love your channel. It’s pretty much the only short style content that doesn’t give brain rot and is actually useful. Thank you!

Same for downward facing dog in yoga :) takes a lot of pressure away from the wrists and feels much better

another tip that i dont hear enough: keep your hands slightly behind your shoulders, not directly underneath. I got into push ups recently and until a few weeks ago i had my hands directly underneath my shoulders, which gave me shoulder pain. Holding them a little bit back is helping a lot

You should also explain (how and why), but for working different muscle groups. In this case of the video, for example, it favors working the triceps.
