My friend and I were discussing this very topic last night. Their delusion and the belief in the delusion to keep them from feeling pain (even though they do) and complete refusal to see the messes they made keeps them stuck and dishonest.

It's the weirdest thing growing up in a home where you were forced to tell the truth and be honest, while the adults didn't have to do anything of the sort. But you do. You have to feel their pain and projection and tapdance around their lies. Add a layer of religious abuse on top of that, and you're left reeling once you face the truth of the whole sorry situation.

I've wondered this myself. To me, pretending to be someone I'm not would be exhausting. I'm a very quiet, introverted, somber person. What you see is what you get. I couldn't keep up the appearance of being the life of the party for long.

It's a deep, tangled web. They have to lie to cover other lies and fear if they admit one they might be held accountable for more. That is, IF they aren't pathological liars who actually believe the lies are truth. Many firmly believe they're always right & know everything, and are so flawless they'd never tell a lie like mere mortals. It's delusional.

My 42 yr old who got married and had a child now 8 yrs old!!! He and I havent seen each other in 14 years!!! We had a falling out back then because he went wild id reveal the real him!!! He smeared me; blamed me ! And now he loves playing a victim by lying telling others i was a abuser!! He rewrote history!! He loves the attention. He fears i will meet his wife andy grandson and see that im a nice loving old lady!! That would make him look like a lier!! I told him daily i loved him; always had time for him snd hugged him telling him how great he is.

It is So Sad, to lie, cheat and steal harming the person they promise to LOVE. Instead, they DESTROY THAT INNOCENT CARING SOUL.
