Pope Adrian’s Letter to the 7th Ecumenical Council, which was ratified in total at said council, condemns statuary inside the Churches & prescribes that Iconography should only ever be 2D. The statuary at Hagia Sophia was only ever outside, & was not for purposes of religious veneration.

Greek Orthodox here, while I dont have issues with statuary for beautification, for use in veneration I believe we need to stick with 2D iconography. Statuary in worship harkens back to pagan rituals. It's a bit of a slippery slope.

These comment sections really reveal the superficiality of all of the hyperdox orthobro "traditionalists"; they get hung up on his looks, why doesn't he have a beard, why does he wear a collar, why does he "dress like a westerner". Just shows how shallow their understanding of Orthodoxy is. May God have Mercy on us

There are many byzantine statues of the Most Holy Theotokos

This comments section is really sad. Full of fashion police, which is disconcerting.

As an Orthodox i dont Agree, the statues makes it easier to sincretize with other religions, Here in Brazil we have many statues of saints being sincretized in "african roots religions".

Serbian churches sometimes put up the statues of the saints in front of churches that are dedicated to them (St.Sava for example), I honestly love this tradition

Funny how in Genesis and Exodus, whenever God appeared in front of Abraham, or Jacob, they would make an altar REPRESENTING the event.
Also, the ark of the covenant had STATUES OF CHERUBIM on each side of it.
Let's not be hypocrites, brothers.
Statues are forbidden whenever they're about false gods, animals...
Holy statues are permitted

There was statuary outside the haha Sophia for the purpose of beautification not veneration. I’m guessing this priest is western rite as well

As Orthodox I don't agree with him.

I have never seen an orthodox priest without a beard and long hair. Interesting. And a collar? These may be superficial things but it just reminds us of the Western church of which we want no part. That’s all.

I haven't yet heard a convincing argument as to why 2-dimensional icons are ok, but not 3-dimensional.

Statues are fine OUTSIDE. They are not a part of liturgical worship.

If you want to know why you should proselytize protestants without proper Catechisis- look at the comments of this video. You have converts who don't understand Orthodoxy.

They fell in love in the Eastern Outward expression rather than Orthodox Theology- so something like this scandalizes them
