The Orthodox Church's Cold War over Ukraine

Who has the final say over the Orthodox Church jurisdiction in Ukraine? Is it the Russian Orthodox Church? Or is the Orthodox Church in Ukraine truly independent now? This is the question that’s led to schism and infighting, and a war in Ukraine isn’t going to make things any less tense.

Can we just all appreciate the ministry of this channel. As always, unbiased, very thorough, accurate and always done with excellence. Sure I don’t agree with some denominations views but it’s great to learn about different denominations and their theology. Thank you sir for what you do. It’s unique and definitely a ministry

Yes, this is probably the best unbiased video on the subject that is clear and direct. I say this as an Eastern Orthodox Christian. Well done.

And literally no one in our government or media have even mentioned this aspect of the conflict.

I’m a Romanian Orthodox whilst I’m very upset that there is war between Russia and Ukraine but at the same time we do also have a jurisdictional dispute with the Russian Orthodox Church over the Republic of Moldova

I am a Catholic of the Byzantine rite from Ukraine, thank you for highlighting the problem of our Orthodox brothers so well, I hope that with God's help we will be able to unite into a single Orthodox Church as it was from 988 (from the moment of baptism) until the signing of the Union (1596). and we hope that with God's help we will receive the recognition of autocephalous Orthodox churches, and in the future we will receive the patriarchy. May God bless!

I am protestant and excited to here from all my brothers and sisters in Christ. I pray for all of us. THE Holy Spirit is grieved, I'm sure as we in the church bicker and fight. Please let us all pray and follow the commands of Jesus Christ too, , love one another, , , love to everyone. Let us pray for peace.

As a non-Christian, I love the level-handedness of your approach to such a complex and tense situation. Bravo!

Thanks for the video, a great summary of what was the biggest issue in the Orthodox Church up to the moment. Perhaps the fratricidal war between Orthodox brothers is a bigger issue now, so it's going to be a big question what happens to these Churches and to their faithful.

I’m under OCA and this is probably the best I’ve ever heard this explained

Ukraine was home to the second largest Baptist community in the world, after the United States, and was called the “Bible Belt” of the Soviet Union.

I'm a traditional Anglo-Catholic and am acquainted with and appreciate a particular OCA congregation here in the USA. This was a helpful video that greatly assisted me in understanding current Orthodox ecclesiastical affairs in Ukraine. Our Rector steadily leads us in prayer for Ukraine in this extremely troubling period of conflict. LORD, have mercy on the people of Ukraine!

Thank you so much for all your videos Josh. I’ve been struggling to find a denomination that fits my views for almost 7 years now. I would always find Pastors that agreed with some of my views, but other of my views they totally rejected. It has been so frustrating for me. I felt like the black sheep in every church I went to.

This channel has helped me to narrow down where I should be looking. I finally have hope that I can find a church with more like minded people. This has been a huge blessing.

Thank you so much brother! You have saved me years of frustration.

Very impressed with all this young man's videos, but an Orthodox Christian, I especially appreciate this informed and unbiased presentation, easy to digest despite the complexity of the subject.

A few updates:

● Denisenko left the OCU
● It was only the Patriarch of Alexandria that recognized the OCU, but because Alexandria is so centralized most must go along with it.
● The Greek and Cypriot Orthodox Churches have a mote decentralized structure and as such not all Greek and Cypriot hierarchs recognize the OCU.
● The MP considers Alexandria to have entered into schism.
