In this video, I show how to fix Windows Update error 0x80070643 on Windows 10 when attempting to install KB5034441. This is a very common issue and has been happening since January 2024. The main reason this update fails to install is due to the recovery partition not being large enough to install the update. I recommend watching at least half the video, as your partition layout may be different from mine and I said some good notes. I will leave chapters in the video as I show how to fix it on both GPT and MBR based systems (Only one section is different, most is the same). If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment! Anyways thanks for watching! Also I decided to not add music this time, as I wanted to do something different. Feel free to listen to your own background music if you wish!

I decided not to upload the notepad document I made, as all of the commands are in those instructions in the link above. Feel free to make your own if you wish!

It seems some are having issues, and since you can't send screenshots in the comments, feel free to contact me on any of these social medias below:

7:49 - Resizing recovery partition (MBR systems) & updating
11:23 - Watch this if MBR system (Unmounting recovery partition after reboot)

I recently realized that in older Windows 10 versions, they used to have the recovery partition first. Not sure why but you need to do something slightly different to fix the error.

In that case, you could either use a program to move the recovery partition after the OS partition (which I don't recommend as they can mess up in some cases), or the simple fix which is to just shrink the OS partition by 700MB and make a new recovery partition entirely.

It should use the new one when re enabling recovery, however if not, disable recovery again, delete the other recovery (the one before the OS partition), then re enable it again. Note that there will be unallocated space where it used to be but that's okay.

Thank you so much for your very clear guide! I've been waiting for months for Windows to fix it themselves until I saw your guide today! Nice work!

Dear Julia, your step - by -step approach to this OBVIOUSLY rampant problem is the only solution I came acrosst that included EVERY keystroke. Even the Microsoft bulletin regarding this MBR snafu misses out on some essential commands. That is to say it's implied I should know about: selecting the correct (desired?) partition and drive before and after certain commands was the key to success. Your commentary, plus the rundown list on the lefthand screen made for a successful disk partition fix. Thank you.

Many Thx, Julia. This saved my day. I spent hours trying to fix this issue before finding your very useful "WU bug fix" on Youtube. Cheers.

Nice video! It's weird that the update wont install because the recovery partition isn't big enough. I hope Microsoft will fix it!
