Single Plane vs Dual Plane Intake Manifold Comparison

A major factor in how our cars performance is the intake manifold. Understanding how a single plane intake can make more horsepower while a dual plane intake creates more torque helps to round out your build. Come hang out for a quick intake manifold comparison.

Another great video. I had a good single plane Torker II BUT with my setup I’m going with an even better single plane Northwind intake from Butler. Hope it works out!

Brother at 45 seconds u won me …… your analogy of a street car spinning off the line, negates need for high low rpm torque ….. I have 327, 74 nova …. Had a few 70 s in high school . ….. I figured if u walk out the hole, why not pull after 3000, and just go hard and grab a gear !!!! Single plane is king for that, to keep rom up all way thru the gears !!! …..

Been playing with cars for 50 years always amazes me how much better the engines run after you put a single plane intake on especially small block Chevy’s. I wouldn’t even consider running a dual plane on any of my engines.

Great info. I think I will stick to my factory 69 dual plane. Also thinking of running a stock quadrajet carburetor. Thanks for the 428 info. I will check out uncle Tony's Video. Thanks for the 428 info, very helpful.

I like to spin the tires so I’ve always run dual plane though I didn’t think I was giving up that much at the top end.
No, I don’t win many races but I haven’t been to the track for a while.

I like your video and I especially like that you're doing this with Pontiac engines in mind. I am trying to decide if switching to a single plane Torker 2 w/1"spacer would to be worth the time & work. I am currently using a performer RPM.... but, I picked up a used torker 2, still undecided on using it. I am running a th400 with a 2800 stall, 342 gears with a 28' tall drag radial. My current engine combination is a Pontiac 461 with ported 72cc edelbrock RPM round port heads, 2.11/1.77 ferrea valves, 10.4 to 1 compression (dished pistons), custom ground hydraulic roller cam 240/251 @ 50 duration. 540/550 lift 106cl/107lsa. 830 holley XP style main body, hooker super comp headers. I primarily street drive it, but when a new camaro, or mustang, or corvette, or hellcat, shows up....
I like to test it. Would like to know what your engine analyzer program says about my

Great topic! im not super mechanical, but understanding the difference between these two types of intake are paramount to building a combination that functions as you want it to. To me, im not planning on hitting the strip, so im all about that low end torque. I just want it to romp from the launch to like 45MPH 😀 probably will never rev over 4500 im guessing. Another thing i think you mentioned... is it true that a stock pontiac intake flows really well and a mild build would never really see the advantages of a high dollar intake? might be better off saving money and investing in better heads first (asking for a friend... well not really).

Be nice to have A head chart.Basically any head under A vortex you should be running A dual plane. Now running My best friend MR Victor JR dumping my clutch at 3800 with 3.73 rear gears...I have to run A street slick because I wanted the tires to brake lose A little at the RPM.It would drop down to roughly to 3400 and put’s me right smack dab at the beginning of my manifolds RPM band. Now shifting my 406 sbc at 6200 on A rolling down my window and tossing out this air crap...I mean gap because I JUST GAPPED gap insurance because using that air gap your gonna need it.

Video was pretty much what I was looking for I have a 406 that's around 10:1 comp, a Howard's hydraulic roller cam that has an rpm range around 1500-6500 and AFR 220 heads so all the goodies to make good power but I have a performer rpm air gap like everyone else and i was thinking about changing to a super vic that i never used yet, i figure the high flowing heads and that little chunk of power i have from 6000-6500 is enough reason to switch but yeah I spin tires alot with 3.73 gears, tremec t56 6 speed in a 2800 pound Camaro, contemplating switching what do you think? Also has a Holley terminator throttle body that's a 950cfm unit, I hear throttle bodies like single planes but it's still a wet flow system so it's a over glorified carb basically, but dont know yet

Hello good information. I have a question, maybe you can help me. My motor is nothing extreme its for street. Chevy 350. Cam 262/270 flat piston stock heads little port. But. My intake. Its a dual plane edelbrock performer rpm. Some people say is big for my setup. They say i need to go with performer but not performer rpm. What do you think??? Thanks alot. And excuse my inglish. Thanks.

I see a turtle in the single plane. Have you had better luck with the Turtle?

I run dual plane Offenhauser on my cars not that I feel they give me an edge, but for the silly reason I like the name Offenhauser over other names. How corny is that.
