That # on his shirt has been ingrained in my head for more than half my life! I'm 68 now. Good luck, and God bless! "Big blocks rocks!!"🇺🇲

I mean I get it’s a big block 454/7.4L V8 and by todays standard of HP per liter it’s not “all that” but geez I’d hardly consider that “a dog” 465HP/537Tq is nothing to scoff at, that’s still would still be a pretty stout street motor, that would still WALK about 90% of the normal cars you pull up next to at the red light (obviously it probably couldn’t run against a newer ZL1 Camaro, GT500 Mustang, Hellcat, etc) but even with the lowest/1st Dyno pull it’s still stout. ESPECIALLY if you have the right diff gearing (3.73, 4.10, 4.56) add all that together in a relatively lighter weight car and you’ve got something that would still definitely be a blast to drive. Not trying to be negative/hate on the video it was a great video as always! Engine masters is definitely one of my favorite series.

My first intake for my Square Port 454 was a tarantula. Carburetor set at a crazy angle. Idea was shorter runners I think. Still got it hanging on the garage.

would have liked to see a torker in the mix for the low height comparison. oh well, cool test.

Back in 1990 or so I built a 468 11. 1 compression BB chevy square port heads 623 lift 248 at .050 duration cam offy port o sonic open plenum intake. In a 3500 lb camaro it lacked low end torque . I switched to performer rpm intake and then the motor struggled to turn rpm after 5000 switched to gm large oval ports with big valves and dart open plenum intake and that was the way to go. Big difference

Can you do a comparison of intakes for the Small Block Olds engines?

Great video. Wish I had a better option than the 2-0 for my 71 Vette.. But that's the only one that I can find that will fit under my stock LS5 hood..

That cheap speed master intake performed really well - that is amazing - yes its made in China but for a gear head on a budget it seems like a great deal - not everyone can afford top of the line parts

David. Look at air fuel ratio at steady throttle 1700 rpms. If its lean. Increase the primary idle feed restrictions. 0.031 afrs are lean on a 347/355. On a 396/408 you need a 0.034" ifr. A 427 needs 0.036. If you like throttle response off idle that is how its done. Look at primary jetting at 3500 to 3800 rpm.

Really like the support of American made parts.

please tell Steve Brule instead of clicking the file to highlight the file he wants to open and then clicking the open button, simply double click the file he wants to open! over time this will save him a BUNCH OF TIME! ;)

My son had a short thick 598 and I had the same problem what I did was put to intake gaskets in there and the motor ran just fine with no are leaking

okay you 2 lads, how about doing an episode about camshaft notching -- meaning advancing or retarding the camshaft by 1 gear tooth or by 2 or 3 teeth ETC, versus crankshaft timing, i read a story back in the early 2000`s about an engine builder who retarded the camshaft to crankshaft alignment by several teeth, basically he explained that the piston was 60 percent on it`s downward stroke creating suction in the cylinder, then the intake valve opened allowing a denser air-fuel charge to be "SUCKED" into the combustion chamber thus resulting in a lot more torque generated ( he did not though state if the camshaft was a custom grind, probably was but just a factory grind maybe .

didn't Brodix/Shafiroff come out with a low deck dual plane intake to feed large cubes/heads? did that ever come out
seemed like a great solution for hood issues
the 615ci 9.8 deck has my attention, especially with hood clearance. looks like a massive torque monster with that 4.625 stroke too, but i might stay with 4.35 or 4.5 stroke if i do a engine swap
I just think BBC's with high compression has such a unique sound that is pure music to the ears

I wish my 454 had that power. It's a stock, '99 and I'm at 1/2 the power and would love to know what the bottom end and heads actually are
