May not be the smoothest talker there but you explained it very well.

The best explanation of dual plane intake manifolds I've ever heard/seen absolutely brilliant!

Back in the 80's I worked at a high performance warehouse, had a 65 Nova with a 350. Had a girlfriend with a 69 Chevelle with a 327.
I had an Edelbrock streetmaster, she had the Offenhouser dual plane that I installed.
That Offenhouser was WAY smoother on idle and quicker acceleration.
I wished that I had installed that in my Nova.

You can tell that you have a world of knowledge on the subject in your head but it's hard to communicate that to us.  Maybe diagrams could help?  Good video.  I don't have a carb'd vehicle but learned a lot about airflow.  Thank you.

Great explanation. Can tell you've been around!

Intake plenum volume is critical. Stoker engines show that on dyno. I just got done building a 505 cud pontiac, im using an All Pontiac block, Kaufman heads, added a coolant bypass hose from the rear of the heads to the front of the intake. Dyno tested it with an Edelbrock rpm performer intake flowing 320cfm. Then tested it with an edelbrock torqer2 intake stock. Plenum volume was a major thing. It made peak power at 6200 rpm at 766hp and 712 tq.
Dyno same engine with the single plane had off idle stumbling, less plenum volume also held it back from reving.
Cam profile and head volume and intake volume make complications

Guy knows his stuff. Maybe should have had an open plane manifold to actually show the difference. Entertaining to listen to also. I'm guessing he is from Milwaukee?

Any recommendations on an upgrade over the factory intake manifold for 'a 78 Continental with a 460? Not looking for a hot rod, but would like to get more HP out of that choked-down big 460. Edelbrock makes various models, but wondering on what model/price point makes the most sense given my situation. Also, wondering about an appropriate Holley carburetor. Thanks for the help!

on a single plane intake its harder to adjust air screws on carb, duel plane separates the carb and makes adjustments easier for idle and low rpm. single plane is pedal to the metal very fast air flow not best for street.

Yep learned to fix the fuel injected cars, so carberated is still a bit unknown to me.
