Alan Cumming's emcee is just so different. At first I felt like he changed Cabaret, but then you look into the actual story that was being told and Alan's interpretation of the emcee is really his own and he owns the heck out of it. Its not sexy, its lewd. Its not sensual, its obscene. And that's his interpretation of the Cabaret. And I'm OK with that. Joel Grey did the emcee as almost a used car salesman commercial. Very carnival barker. But Alan's emcee is lewd, debauched, gritty and dark and I'm good with this version

Love the emphasis on YOU Alan uses in his interpretation of the song. Especially in the very last scene. Best Emcee ever, in my opinion. His facial expressions alone could win a Tony .

I know people love Joel Grey's interpretation of the role, and it is great, but Cumming is by far the best Emcee. so menacing and debauched and pathetic and tragic and whimsical... he's a genius
