The first time I saw this musical number I was in history class. The teacher put the video for us and the whole class found it cringey and made bad jokes. The professor felt quite sad about it, but it honestly sparked something in me. Now I'm studying performing arts and it's probably mostly thanks to this.

As a student I worked in a cinema as a side job. Cabaret stayed on for weeks and weeks. While the movie was playing you could spend your time however you wanted. While my coworkers were hanging around in the foyer, I watched this movie again and again, i knew all the dialogs and all the songs by heart. I practiced the dance routines, I tried to look like Liza Minelli. I was obsessed! I still know all the routines and songs. Years later I went to see Chicago, and that movie hit me in excactly the same spot.

Just for this performance, Liza and Joel both deserved their Oscar’s. Such a delight to watch. Best number I’ve seen in 100 years of motion pictures

Liza looks so much like her mother and has her talent too. She was never just a nepo baby. This performance is amazing!

People who say it’s cringe subconsciously know it’s taking a dig at their on since of reality. This song does so many things between the lyrics and the visuals. First it exposes greed as an open nerve of base animal instinct instead of a slicked up Gordon Gecko. Secondly the lyrics mocks those with money saying money isn’t everything while people are facing hard times. Lastly if you watch the music just in order by itself, then you’ll realize every song builds little by little showing a progression of ethical creep. Honestly this is the first overt song where stereotypes really are becoming the normal profile in public discussion. The play overall is a brilliant way to show how people can over time slide from just wanting something better into something absolutely horrible step by step.

"Cabaret" will always be a classic. I recently had the pleasure to see it again on the big screen. "Money" will always be relevant as it is what makes the world go round now and always.

My parents had the soundtrack on tape so I listened to it as a kid many times before I actually saw the movie. This song was my favorite on the tape and I’d listen to it over and over

This iconic scene MUST be one of the best EVER in films. They both deserved the academy award they received even if for this scene only.

People who find this cringe truly don’t understand musical theatre

The message is diabolical and true at the same time.

why does this clip the best and most important part of this whole song? the last 45 seconds convey the deeper meaning behind this song!

As the rest of the song should go:
"When you haven't any coal in your stove
And you freeze in the winter
And you curse to the wind at your fate
When you haven't any shoes on your feet
You're coat's like a sheet
And you look thirty pounds underweight
When you go to get a word of advice
From the fat little pastor
He will tell you to love everymore
But when hunger comes a rap-and-atap-and-atap at the window
(Spoken
At the window!
Who's there?
Hunger!
Ooh, hunger? (fainting music))
(Sung)
See how love flies out the door! (raspberry)
Money makes the world go around
the world go around
the world (clink clink)
Money makes the (raspberry)
go around that clinking clanking sound
Oh
money money money money
get a little get a little
a mark a yen a buck or a pound
that clinking clanking clunking sound
is al that makes the world go around
it makes the world go round!

Bob Fosse dragged the American musical kicking and screaming into the latter half of the twentieth century.

И вот сколько уже пытаются это повторить, но увы никто так и не дотянул. Это просто 💞💞💞

I remember seeing this musical number when I was about 16. I am now 66 and it is something that I have never forgotten! An absolute monumental classic! I love it!
