Beginning to run can feel extremely daunting, and as such keeps even the most strong-willed people from getting started and keeping with their running routine. While it may feel too intimidating to jump into running without a plan or background in running, it's never too early to simply start moving, concentrate on time, not distance. Here are my 3 best best tips for getting started running safely and making it last injury free.

I haven't run in two years due to depression and lots of personal issues. Got myself to run 20 minutes today and I forgot how much it hurts when you're out of shape. It will be hard to take it easy because I used to run so fast and for so long. It's gonna feel so good to get back into shape!

I've run 26 marathons and am just starting back up again after 3 years off. At 43, I'm eating some humble pie...but all good. One painful run at a time. Thank you for the tips and continued push.

Oh My God! # 1: REMOVE EGO.!!!! I should adapt that to everything I do! That is BRILLIANT ! THANK YOU FOR THAT! That is going to be my new mantra. I just discovered your Channel!!! I am 65 and getting back into running, trying to reboot my 24 miles a week; after not running for almost 8 years. I started running when I turned 40; but stopped 8 yrs ago, re: long divorce, 3 children going off to college in 3 different parts of the country, etc., etc. but now all is well, and I'm on way to my own reboot! Thank you for this channel !

I've had multiple long breaks. 2 years when I was in my mid to late 20s. 6 years in my mid 30s to early 40s. Then again 7 years to My early 50s.

It's hard to go on time when I'm so used to the miles but I get it. Good tips as always John.

I used to run in high school and was a varsity runner. Well, that was 13 years ago!! Haha. Starting my journey again today after many many failed attempts. Thank you for this positive video.

Thank you for this. Depression since Covid days. And getting back to running with my brother. He is so humble even though he runs two 100 milers a year. He’s cool with showing up with me on a track and I set my pace. Thank you for encouragement. 💕

Putting my ego aside is the hardest part. Because I compared myself what I used to do when I was a better runner.

All so true! I took 5 months off running every year to avoid the icy freezing winters... which meant every spring was a comeback. It was never easy, but I found my mojo through this channel last year, and hopefully that is the last comeback I'll ever need to make. The friendly supportive community from this channel has made all the difference in my running. I have a wonderful supportive husband, but he's not a runner, and I've got no running buddies nearby- and none at all that run ultras. Then I found this awesome crew, to bounce ideas off of, get inspiration and advice from, and hold myself accountable to. I'm still a sloth, but a happy fit one! Thanks guys!

This is a great video. I suffered from Osgoods-schlatter’s disease (it’s not really a disease) and I was out for around 20 months, then covid hit and I lost all my fitness. Used to have an 8 pack and now I am at rock bottom. I can only go up from here and that motivates me so I’ve signed up for a half marathon next May and I’m working super hard. Great advice about letting go of the ego.

Needed this! Just signed up to the strava club. Leaving the ego at the door as I get back to it. A walk/ run this evening is on the cards 🙌💪

I was running 5k in under half a hour. I loved running.

Now I am wanting to get back into it but I have gained 2 stone and I can't run like I used to.

I think I will start of at running 15 minutes before work and if I can cycle 15 minutes as a cool down.
