I first started running when I was 16. And I couldn't run because I had serious spine and hip problems. So, with consulting a doctor, I started slow. Step by step. First time I managed to run 1k without falling on the floor from pain I cried tears of joy. Running became sort of liberation for me. It took me such a long time, but 2 years later I managed to run 14k. My body became so much stronger!
I am almost 25 now, and decided to start running again few months ago. I was scared of pain returning, but no. Body remembers! First 10k race next weekend, couldn't be more excited 🥰

I've watched many videos on how to begin my running journey. Truly, this is the most helpful. 🤗💚 It gives me options, little tips, inspired a few other ideas, and helped me feel better about starting at level zero 😅 Thanks, Chels!!

Great video and tips. I tell people all the time you cannot compare your run journey with anyone else's and if you are disciplined enough you will reach out run goal. I took an 8 month break from running and now I am back out there a few days a week and I love how I feel when I finish each run.

So glad you did this video. Definitely want to get back into long distance running, and exercise in general, this new year.

Love this! I want to get into running for the cardio benefits and the fresh air :) I bought shoes and belt. Just don't want to eat it on slippery roads so I'll start once the roads are clear! I'm a personal trainer and I'm good with weights but not with cardio, so hoping this is something I can stick to 1-2 times per week. I've heard that you almost need to run at a quick walking pace so you don't go too hard. Super hard to do when you want to be speedy haha

This has me motivated to start running, I do a little on the treadmill when I work out as a warm up but I have asthma and such bad endurance I'm trying to work on it but I really should try harder lol, I was getting sick for a long time at my current job which isn't a problem I had before making it hard to work out when I was always sick but I started wearing mask and gloves to work which I don't do like everywhere or anything but I noticed where I work somewhere with so many people It's really made a huge difference and now I need to get back into working out and I'm very excited

I'm currently doing a 10k plan on the Runna app where the focus is on improving my existing 10k time. I really like the structure it provides with the different types of runs but I'm going to adapt it a bit and ignore the pace it sugests for the easy and long runs as even though I dont find them difficult my heart rate was still always in zones 3 and 4 which does not reflect an easy effort. I want to bring the pace right down to improve aerobically in zone 2.

The only time you really need water DURING a run is if you’re running over 15k or out in a trail where you could get lost, or if you’re in Texas in the summer and running longer than an hour. Gels? You do not need those unless going 20 or over, or if you’re practicing nutrition for a long race. Do not complicate yourself.

i want to run because cardio is important and it’s overall helpful, accessible, inexpensive fitness hobby. fitness is important to me. i like running partly because there’s a constant change in scenery, which is untrue of some other workouts. i’ve always loved hiking and walking so running seems like a natural next step especially because i’m in college now but i was a runner as a kid. everyone tells me i am too skinny and i want some lean muscle now. the issue with bulking is im afraid of getting fat so i think running could be a good first step because i try to eat healthy and i eat a high protein meal after my runs and other workouts are done for the day. having reasons why i do something helps me a lot to keep motivation especially when the thing i want to do (running) is difficult. i am trying to cut down on my vaping because it makes it more difficult to run when ive noticed vaping has made it harder for be to breathe when i exercise.

Oh wow! I just got the Hoka Mach X at my local running store, and the other day, I was walking/running, and I noticed my foot kept rolling inwards! I had no idea that I was experiencing pronation. Good to know! Great video!

One thing i haven't noticed anyone mention is breathing. One huge way i improved my running was focusong on managing my breathing. In through the nose four strides, out four strides. Once you cant manage your breathing, you are nearing your wall and its better to rest. More than distance or time focus on breathing.

Thanks Chelsea! I registered for the BMO race this year and haven’t even ran yet due to very cold weather and my chaotic schedule, so this is helpful, thank you! 🙏🏻

Thanks for the breathing tips while running. It makes me want to start. I'm a little worried about my knees, though.
