Why you SHOULD Buy an Intel-Based Mac! ( ARM can WAIT)

Why is everyone giving Intel Macs the death sentence? Here's a few VERY good reasons why it still makes sense to buy an Intel-Based Mac this year!

Everyone knows that Apple is switching to their own ARM-based Silicon chips within the next two years, but that doesn't mean that software support for Intel-Based Macs is going away.

Apple themselves mentioned that they'll continue to support Intel Macs for years to come.

But still, people are condemning Intel-based Macs and telling people that they should wait for ARM Macs to come.

In my opinion, it actually makes MORE sense to buy an Intel-Based Mac for some people right now instead of waiting.

In this video, I explain all of the reasons why it makes sense, and the downsides of ARM-Based Macs.

I also explain which group of people SHOULD in fact wait for ARM.

I'm a developer and the second I heard the ARM announcement I ordered a new 16" MBP. I can't have an ARM MBP during the transition period as I need all the software that I use right now to work with no issues. And I also need Windows 10 running side by side with Parallels and I don't know how well that's going to work right out the gate. I'm going to use the 16" for the next 5 years at least and then finally when the transition period is over, I might upgrade to an ARM MBP

For financial reasons, Apple won't tell exactly how many years they will continue to make Intel-based Macs: they don't want to lose the negotiation power with intel. As far as support goes, we can expect 7-8 years for say Mac Pro 2019, 16" MBP. However, there might be a twist here: Apple might be looking at the sales number whatnot to decide how long they want to support. With that being said, there is no need to 'WAIT' for an ARM Macs. If you need an MBP etc. just buy it, you should be good for years to come.

Being a developer, I couldn't agree more. We use a lot of less used softwares. And they all are x86 based. Waiting for them to convert, I'm not taking that chance on a $1k+ machine.

I have a simple rule:

If you are in desperate need of a new computer, buy one now. If you’re machine is fine for your needs right now, then wait. If you do wait, you can get that new, improved machine or get the “older” generation cheaper.

The problem is that when they switched from PPC to Intel, we got TWO years before PPC was dead. That is the taste that is in our mouth. They need to come out and tell us EXACTLY how many years they will support Intel macs being sold in 2020.

I bought the 16" MacBook Pro at the end of last year when it was released. I plan to keep it until at least the 2nd or 3rd gen of the ARM Macs so that some of the third party apps I need have a chance to get Arm versions and so that any bugs can be worked out of the apple silicon Macs in those first two years.

This is my 3rd (or is it 4th?) transition w/ Apple. I'm dependent upon the audio software and now w/ plugins there is no way i'm buying a new Mac. I'm gonna use my 5, 1 Mac Pro as long as I can before taking the leap. In the interim I'm buying an iPad Pro to do usual "laptop duties".

After so much consideration and thought on this issue, I’ve finally decided that I’m going to invest in one more good intel based Mac. As a developer, I feel like I must if I don’t want to deal with any software and open source issues. So come this fall, if Apple releases a new 10th gen updated 16” MacBook Pro, I’ll be going for it. I've an i9 iMac on order with 2TB SSD for the last five weeks. The vendor has long had delivery of iMacs that were ordered three days before mine. We surmise and hope that Apple will honour the order and deliver the 10th generation i9. Apple are almost certainly up to something, because 27" iMacs are mostly sold out everywhere at the moment with deliver dates stretching ever further into the future.

Your judgement totally makes sense. Since it's cool for marketing to sell "a huge step forward " using arm-based chip, but practically, brand-new change usually requires years for refinement up to the greatness we expect.

A good example is, Android 1 ( brand-new) vs Android 10 ( refinement up to greatness)
