Why You Should Still Buy An N64

Oh, the Nintendo 64. It’s the console I probably have the fondest memories of since it was the first home console I’ve ever played. I remember getting up at 8am, having breakfast and then gaming until supper time, or until my parents literally forced me to stop playing. Those were the good ol’ days where I didn’t have a care in the world. Now, I have to worry about adult stuff like mortgage payments and going to work. It makes me wish I could go back in time to when all I had to worry about was how much time I’d be able to spend gaming each day.

If you’re like me and reminiscing about the Nintendo 64, then maybe you’re considering actually buying the console. I still own my N64, but if you want one, go get one! You definitely won’t regret it. For starters, it’s not very expensive to get a grey N64. If you want a special edition N64, like the blue and yellow Pikachu edition, then you’re going to need to shell out a bit more money, but you’ve got a collector’s item at that point. The games are the biggest selling point of the console since almost every single one of them is great.

There’s more reasons than just those to get a Nintendo 64 so enjoy the video, let me know whether or not you’re thinking of buying an N64 in 2021 in the comments section below and don’t forget to subscribe to TheGamer for more gaming tech content.

After about 20 years, I purchased a replacement for my N64 and am having a barrel of fun with it. Gaming Like It's 1999. Prince would approve!

I still have my Nintendo 64 with about thirty games, it's been in storage many years, I'm about ready to break it out and have some fun!

Your point about emulation being "illegal" is technically incorrect, although practically correct. Emulators are not illegal, and you're making the stretch of the idea that the only method of creating emulation is pirating games. Dumping games in a legal matter is totally possible, and it's up to the gamers to source ROMs in a legal matter (and not pirate). Most people will pirate games, correct, but that does not mean emulation is illegal. If emulation was illegal, it wouldn't be as prevalent online as it is today.

I've never had a Nintendo console in my life, I feel like I missed out on all those iconic games. So I just bought a Nintendo 64 w/ Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, and Banjo Kazooie to give them a try. I also have an old CRT to hook it up too, gonna get that authentic N64 experience

A really good game, stays a really good game even when the current technology has far surpassed it. I played Star Fox 64 for about 3 days straight just about a month ago. I recently picked up Shadows of Empire, Waverace, Turok and Conker's Bad Fur Day because it had great multiplayer as well. I know I'm old and it isn't coming back, but I miss when games were designed to be played with other people on your couch. Now it's all meant to be played online with some raging 13 year old in some random location on Earth who you have never met, will never meet and will never want to meet. I don't always want to play games through nostalgia goggles. I do like the new directions the XSX and PS5 took. However, DLCs and added content got a bit out of hand with loot boxes. I have a humble collection of about 25 consoles, and 10 different handhelds and there is nothing as enjoyable as playing games on the original hardware.

I have an N64 and it's sad those good days are gone 😞 but it's something that I'll never forget. Still love playing my games on the N64, rareware was one of the best things Nintendo ever had on the N64 loved playing banjo kazooie/Tooie conkers bad fur day Diddy kong racing and all the other games rareware made for that system. It truly broke my heart💔 when rareware left Nintendo would have been so cool to play those games on the go with the Nintendo switch.

I've owned an N64 since 2013, and I was born in the Autumn of '99. I may not have grown up with this thing, but I can feel the love and nostalgia for it just by playing the games and using the hardware. I think it's one of those retro things that both old and new players can enjoy even if we're used to new stuff like the Switch or PS4 or whatever, especially with the quality many of the games hold that is a hit or miss today.

Nintendo 64 was so dope. It's the last Nintendo console I got. I was in my early teens when the GameCube came out and that purple box looked childish to me. Been rocking with Playstation ever since.

I started collecting games for the N64 but gave up when the games I wanted were to expensive. So I bought an Everdrive X7 and now have the full library, along with the Disc Drive games. It's fantastic.
