Показать описание
antiX Linux is one of the best lightweight Linux distributions available to download today. antiX is a Debian based Linux distribution that gives you a systemd-free installation. This distro is great on old computers or if you have limited ram in your system. antiX is not only great for the lower spec machines, but for anyone looking for a simple lightweight operating system that doesn't get in the way of your workflow.

I've bought an old netbook, Atom 1, 66 Gh 1 GB RAM DD2, no internal HD, 800 x 480 display. AntiX was the only distro that made it run smoothly! Thanks for the video, it inspired me to test antix on this machine

Nice overview! I love any mention of MX Linux and AntiX - those projects really can bring new life to old devices :)
It would've been great if you could show the snapshot tool - that imo is truly an awesome functionality that would be helpful especially novices.

This is the first time I've seen any Marxist influence in the FOSS world. I really thought it'd be all over the FOSS movement. I'm not endorsing any particular ideology, but you gotta admit, FOSS has some socialist undertones. It's free software in which anyone can contribute, and everyone that works on it has part ownership. It's got a VERY anti-corporate aura around it, one that somehow rivals that of the old school 'worker's rights'-type socialists. It's really amazing that the FOSS movement hasn't been high-jacked by political interests already.

I was actually going to use this distro on my main machine but Debian repositories are a bit annoying. Now I'm using Artix runit w/ IceWM and it is very comfortable. Love antiX and it is what inspired me to start using IceWM in the first place. It is a very clean distro.

Awesome, Downloading this right now to test it out. I have plenty of ram and cpu, but I really appreciate a snappy system and this looks super interesting. Thanks for sharing a deeper look!

AntiX is awesome, but I tried Q4OS Trinity and it worked very well also (Pentium DualCore 3gb) giving a more integrated desktop exeprience. KDE3 apps are still very good ;-)

Yes, icewm is very cool and fast. Nice to see it in action again, used it decades ago on a 80486 computer. Have to install it again, it was the fastest window manager i ever had even sometimes faster than blackbox, fluxbox etc.

On the brief note of Antix and Mx sharing tools, it is because they're part of the same project, Antix is literally the X in MX.

On older hw I tried in the past puppy Linux (before the forks) and both slitaz and slax working, now in recent time I have rasbian and had batocera Linux on old laptops. I keep hearing about antix so I checked this. Great video.

AntiX and IceWM is definitely one of the lightest desktop distros, but I found the last 32-bit version of Linux Mint Xfce to be a much better experience overall, after following a performance tuning guide I found online. IceWM was a great DE 20 years ago when I was running it on a laptop with Libranet Linux, but it feels very archaic these days. Most DEs today at least have a searchable app menu/launcher, even Xfce and LXDE.

I use antix as a daily driver with a t60p thinkpad maxed out. It’s really great to have a system with such low ram usage.

Neofetch has an antix logo but you need to manually set it in the config otherwise it displays Debian

I can also recommend SliTaz Linux for old PCs. It's super-small and relatively easy to use!

Really would want to see it on a really old system. Push it to the limit

GhostBSD is also very very light yet has a Mate hat. I usually put that on clients low end laptops. Also Solus is a very clean and fast production.

Another good lighweight albeit slightly heavier linux distro (not by much) is VOID Linux in particular the MUSL varient. I have it on my laptop which is newer but basically bottom of the barrel from like 2018. It's great and only uses around 300mb of ram on boot.

I'm so happy you did this video!! I have had a love hate relationship with this distro but I truly believe it wasn't the distro, cit was me. Actually I really love it especially the rox filer. It's so underrated and feature rich!!😀
