I have a laptop which I bought 12 years ago so it's very low powered by today's standards. But I can easily run Android studio, a browser and an emulator on it, all at the same time, and guess what, the performance is very similar to what you get on a mid-range laptop available in the market today.

What my laptop lacks in the hardware department I make up for it by installing ingenious Linux distros that are built for superior performance.

These distros breathe new life into older hardware as these operating systems have a reduced overhead, allowing the computer to use more resources in terms of memory and CPU cycles for user tasks, thereby providing visible boost in performance.

Today I've picked for you the top 5 best Linux distros that deliver a power packed computing experience along with solid stability great usability and some with downright stunning looks.

I tried about 6 different Linux distros, and have found MX Linux to be my favorite overall. On a 12-year old computer, it performs like a much newer and more powerful one. It has so many extra features than any other distro.

Great list and an easy transition from windows for most people.
I remember using mcc interim and tamu back in the early 90s then switching to dos and then to mandrake and other distros. These days I use bog standard manjaro xfce.
Is there a reason you didn't cover an lxqt de?

I have stopped distro hopping for 4 years now. Very happy with Manjaro KDE Plasma. It's stable and fast.

Thanks for this great video. I've installed Zorin Lite because it looked beautifull in your video. Unfortunately, the wallpaper you use is not in the standard ones that came with the download. Where can I find it?

Excellent video!!!! I have tried all these distros at some point. I still have a liking for bodhi Linux. It just looks cool and is fast!

I am using pure Debian with all the desktop environments installed from the net installer. It's fast. Even on my 2008 HP desktop it works great. No complaints whatsoever!!!

Hi, I have a 12 year old laptop with intel i3 370m processor, 4gb ddr3 ram, it has a 240gb ssd on which I created a 110gb partition and loaded linux mint mate on it 2 days back (the other partition has windows 10). Initially it didn't support hd display for my connected monitor which I fixed through terminal, the display is fine but when I watch youtube it seems the display is a lil bit lagging but the sound is smooth... what to do. Other than that how to clear the cache? For example in windows searching %temp% gives the temporary files list deleting which makes the device smoother. (I am a first time linux user)

Hey hi !
So the other day I was trying to dual boot windows with cutefish os.
During installation, it said :-
error: symbol 'grub_disk_get_size' not found
Entering rescue mode.
What do I do ? Windows is barely usable 😔

How about CachyOS? Their packages come patched with all the latest optimizations (be it from clear linux, liquorix, xanmod, tkg...) as well as x86-64-v3 to ensure the highest performance. You can pair it with a minimal desktop like XFCE to make it lightweight.

Been using Manjaro KDE for two years now and its been great. Best distro I've used since 2005 other than Mint.

I really like Anti-x for lightweight computing. And a stripped down version of Xubuntu is really nice too. But I think the oldest, crankiest PC I had did best with Sparky.

Since 2009, I have been utilizing SliTaz. And I continue to use it today, which allows me to complete a lot of tasks efficiently. There is no need to acquire a new laptop.

I just quit manjaro from this list, and put Loc-OS XFCE instead, blazing fast & edge, based on Debian 11 bullseye, start with just 400 MB of RAM, amazing! Also has LXDE versions, that performs faster beginning with only 200 MB of RAM.

I thought MX Linux and Manjaro XFCE were both pretty good. But TROMjaro is on a whole other level IMO in terms of user friendliness, flexibility and ease of customization, and consistent aesthetics.
