I just moved over to Linux myself and am very happy with pretty much everything. Nvidia drivers are a nightmare for most distros unless it comes with easy install methods (Ubuntu, mint, etc). I want to run Fedora but despite all the tutorials, I just could not get it to be stable. How about a video on getting this running for all the newbies out there like me 😉

Thanks Michael!
I downloaded KUBUNTU after having watched your video on how to install it!
Thanks pal!

I'm working on week 3 of daily driving Fedora 40 with KDE Plasma, I absolutely love it! It actually feels a lot better than being on Windows, surprisingly. I'm still getting used to Dolphin and how it works as I'm used to a My Computer and navigating around that way, rather than starting in the Home folder. But I'll get the hang of it!

A distro is feel is very underrated for beginners, & those with older/weaker hardware is Solus w/Budgie DE, it has plenty of software in their repos, it's easy to use, it's rolling release, so it's updated fairly regularly, but way less chance of something breaking like on vanilla Arch, it's not based on Ubuntu, it has a familiar layout for those coming from Windows, most hardware just works, & there's a solid team behind the dirsto, so you know it's got a good future ahead of it.

One little note about 4:21, the template folder is indeed used for right click custom template files, so its not only on zorin os, but on any distros with any file manager that supports it (most of them)

I switched to kde fedora two weeks ago. So far I like it, there are some configuration and things I had to do but overall I like it. Installing things can either be very simple or very complicated.

nobara is a seriously underrated distro, its not just for gaming. it comes with a faster kernel, more kernel patches (specifically for surface devices and asus laptops), and overall is super simple to use. also it comes with a custom version of kde, gnome, and stock kde. I very much reccommend it to beginners

I still need Windows for a couple of things, so I am looking to leverage VMware Workstation, running a Nobara VM on top of Windows on my laptop, and a Win 11 VM on top of Nobara on my desktop. Only problem is Nobara/Fedora 40 currently has issues in Workstation. Once that works, I should be good to go. The main reason for Nobara on my desktop is for gaming. On the laptop, it’s just to be consistent with my desktop. I can back up and take snapshots of the VM and roll back or restore any time I want or need to.

Thank you for narrowing my choice from 2 to 5.

After trying several distributions (Mint, Debian, Manjaro, Arch, EndeavourOS) Fedora is the one I've had the least amount of problems with, almost everything just worked out of the box without breaking and I didn't have to spend several hours on fixing a program.

It's worth noting that Linus Torvalds himself uses Fedora! It's beginner friendly, and Mr. Linux himself uses it! I've never distrohopped to it, but when I finally turn my windows 10 gaming partition into a Pop!_OS gaming partition, I might distrohop on my main partition to Nobara just to do side by side benchmark comparisons of games I like to play. If Nobara outperforms Pop!_OS, might have THAT be my gaming partition instead!

Switched this week from Windows to Nobara and while i have a few problems the overall experience is great. No constant popups or programs that put my games out of focus, no ads whenever i open the start menu. Yes i do have to change a few settings to make some games run as good as on windows, but for 70% they just work fine.

Ubuntu(MATE) is hella underrated, it's the only distro i stuck too, The mate DE uses almost the same amount of resources as xfce while appear quite better out of the box.

It runs just fine (with zram enabled)on my old 2GB ram celeron 2955u dell inspiron 3537(yeah that purchase was downright bad, but i was an 8 year old back then).

debian is also great for beginners, only installation can be little tricky though.

big fan of popOS it works great with steam and its pretty polished and easy to use and install and a wide variety of hardware. The only time i had issues was when trying to install on an old chromebook. I am trying not to be a fan boy of the OS but is nice to use and has given me little trouble as a daily driver

I think Mint Debian is worth a special mention too since they basically have Mint based directly on Debian here which works on even older machines than Ubuntu does.
And thanks to flatpaks, it is almost on par too.

I would always argue against using Fedora as a beginners Distro. In the long term it’s on of the most difficult to use/maintain for beginners.
