Elementary is the best distro for Mac users because you can pay for it 😉

Forget about Linux,
All my homies moved out to TempleOS.

I misread the title as "top five mental disorders for beginners" while scrolling and honestly I wasn't that far off

The XFCE version of Mint. That's what I would recommend.

I am new to Linux. Started with Windows in the 3.1 days and it's been my bread and butter as I worked in IT. My main computer runs Windows 10 Pro and I see no reason to change that.
Maybe I'm lucky but I do not have all the problems and beefs some people do with Windows. I do build my own computers. I have one box that I have dedicated to Linux.
On my main computer I have a bunch of distros loaded in VMs. I go back and forth between them until I settle into one distro. Right now I am favoring Arch and Arch-based
distros like Manjaro and ArcoLinux. I am also liking MX Linux quite a bit. I think the majority of distros are very good. Basically boils down to personal preference. Youtube has been
a goldmine for info, including this channel. I grew up before the internet and things like youtube so you can imagine how much I appreciate it. I will probably never be as proficient
with Linux as I am with Windows and that's OK. I am liking it a lot. Thanks again for all the great content

I took Linux courses at college but never really wanted to use it as my daily driver. Thanks to you and your channel, I'm now dual-booting Mint and trying it out for light daily use and getting reacquainted with Linux terminal commands. Thanks!

When I first looked into trying GNU/Linux I settled on Mint. It takes care of most things for you and gives you a solid base from which to learn. The main reason I switched other than curiosity was to get newer packages, seeing as snaps and the like weren't an easy option if at all back then. I do prefer a repository to secondary package managers so I've probably used Manjaro the most. It may be available with other installers but I enjoy that if I wish to fresh install without touching any other partitions, Manjaro offers to install over a previous installation.

Mint was my first distro - about two years ago, now I'm doing Manjaro KDE. I much prefer Manjaro - pacman and AUR alone has sold me on arch based distros. I also like how Manjaro isn't quite as bleeding edge with the software releases - I prefer having an extra buffer zone to keep the bugs and gremlins at bay.

Hey Mental Outlaw - thanks for all of the Linux distro and open source software videos.

I'm going to be migrating away from a lifetime of Windows usage (since Win95) within probably a week and I'm now going through your videos, grabbing a few choice distros and programs to try out.

So far I've grabbed Mint, Peppermint, Garuda, Manjaro, and Tails as far as distros go and I'm going to try QEMU on your recommendation for my Win7 VM needs, given my gaming requirements.

All the best from Transylvania.

Just subscribed to your channel after watching your interview. Nice video. I'm not a Linux guy but happy to learn.

I have MOST of these on my VENTO usb-- and can use them any time.... running Peppermint right now-- have all the Manjaro ones- and others.... GREAT VIDEO-- THANK you so much.. I'm glad this was an actual REVIEW instead of just a "reading" of the items listed in the software...and going over the same crap we've seen hundred of times.. GREAT JOB!!

I installed mint at first, then switched to manjaro gnome for a couple of weeks, now I'm running manjaro kde for almost a year now and I'm loving it.

I'm glad you made this video. I've always been quietly rooting for Linux from a distance, but there's been three big issues that kept me from really taking the plunge.

1. Compatibility. I play vidya. I have decades worth of games which are all Windows-based. I'm sure WINE works for some stuff, but I assume it's not plug and play like, say, an NES emulator. It sounds like Valve is doing a good job changing this though, so I'm really excited and would love to see MS get rekt.
2. Perceived arcanum. Of the few times I've fiddled with Linux, both times I had uncanny amounts of trouble finding ways to change simple settings that didn't involve dicking around in a terminal. If I just want to change my desktop wallpaper, desiring a basic GUI interface for casual use shouldn't be a sin, which leads to...
3. Community elitism. I grew up with computers, played with them since I was like 5 years old. I've built my own rigs for my adult life, I'm not some grandma who downloads toolbars in IE. I can _usually_ figure out how a UI works with a little trial and error but there seems to be some sort of complexity fetish in many distros. I perceive an intense cliqueyness, as if designers deliberately try to confuse people with casual interest before waving them away with a casual "RTFM". Some people aren't super hardcore and just want a reliable OS to go about their business with in peace, but it's almost like the idea of accessibility is anathema to the whole idea of the kernel.

Mint sounds like it's a good choice for me. A Windows-esque interface should greatly ease the growing pains. If I want to get more hardcore with it, I shall.

Thanks for explaining snap packages. I ended up going with Mint cause I used it long term in the past and it runs like a breeze on my tiny thinkcentre PC.

great video man...

while watching it I thought " bro, all Ubuntu or Ubuntu based, the last ones gonna be PopOs! as usual on u YouTube" but at the end seeing manjaro made my day...
my first one was ubuntu (for a week) then mint ( a month), then manjaro for a year, used arch after that because i was confident after being such long user of linux and had time but now due to time issue I again switched to manjaro..

A happy Linux user...peace ✌️

I switched to Linux few months ago and actually picked Manjaro.
Can confirm, it was a good choice

Very well thought-through and informative. Very similar to my own distro-hopping experience:
Peppermint is light on requirements, and is the closest thing I've found to getting a chromebook-like feel. Bodhi, Puppy and Porteus seem to be in the same vein, but very different use-cases.
Elementary, like Zorin, has a slick look and rock-solid feel to it, as long as the hardware isn't too old.
I have been an Ubuntu user since (sometime between 10.04/ Lynx to 12.04/ Pangolin) but am absolutely loving Linux Mint (Cinnamon version) which I switched to a couple of years ago. Cheers.
