We dive into the technology behind high-resolution TVs on the market today, taking a look at both a 4K OLED panel from LG and an 8K LCD from Samsung. Here's how streaming content looks on both, why upscaling is worth scrutinizing, and how the two manufacturers make use of fundamentally different screen technologies to varying effect. What qualities of a TV matter to you?

For vr, yes 8k would be useful. For a tv, it's just a way to get you to buy something more expensive.

I'm sure Adam appreciates having his wrinkles pointed out in high resolution.

I like the premise that LG has the balls to send you a competitor model, but at the same time it stops being ballsy when you realize they got to specifically choose said model. It's like saying "My car is faster than any, but you'll race against the one we chose."

Which one has the better built-in spy camera?

Everything looks like 240p to me.

It's in 144p

This is a bit of a poor comparison to be fair, and LG knew that when sending you the TV's. No amount of processing can put back what is not there when up scaling so it is obvious the 8k tv is going to look poorer having to add more digital imagination to the picture. Yes I do agree that OLED does look better in the contrast of light and dark but the thing that has really put me of OLED TV's is the horrendous screen burn I have seen on shop display models, it's like going back to CRT days. Giving that TV channels now always display some form of fixed logo in the corner this is going to become a problem as some of them are quite prominent.
I have only just adopted 4k and it is still very expensive with 4k blu-ray being 2.5 times the price of DVD and around 2 thirds the price again on standard blu-ray. I am one of the lucky ones here in the UK in that I can stream 4K but for many our broadband is not up to it so 8K is out of the question even if the content were there.

Ah ... the travesty of watching a 1080p video on a 4k display comparing 4k oled to an 8k qled ;) I get your arguments though. Thanks for sharing.

It's interesting that no one mentions that most 4K blurays are just 2K masters upscaled to 4K.

hmmm which company paid you? lets watch to find out.

If you look at how 8k and up scaling is being promoted, it’s really for super sized screens like 75”, 85”, etc where the pixels per inch begins to be reduced and where upscaling 4K for a better viewing experience comes into play. It’s not really about the availability of 8k content.

No mention of oled burn in issues? Much rather have a LCD that lasts than a great looking oled I have to keep replacing.

A higher resolution has only one purpose. That purpose is to maintain image clarity as the screen gets physically larger. Can you have a higher pixel density on a smaller screen? Sure, but you won't be able to tell the difference vs a screen with a smaller pixel density. The reverse, however, isn't the same. As screen size gets larger, a lower pixel count will begin to appear pixelated and images will become grainy at a certain point. When it begins to become noticeable, that is when you want to increase pixel density.

I cant deny it any longer. 4k adult videos are the bomb

This seemed like an over-long commercial for LG. You guys are better than this.

Nice video. What about the shadow detail of both TV's? I've heard OLED tends to crush a lot of it, whereas QLED preserves more detail in dark areas due to it getting brighter overall

I have not found any streaming in true 4k HDR, there is still color & contrast banding. I have a 1gbps feed running at 800mbps. Amazon & Apple.

I would take a 1080p OLED over the samsung 8k LCD/LED for picture quality if both where offered to me for no cost and I had to keep it to use it could not sell it.
I remember when OLED first came out in 1080p and 4k was out for LCD/LED tv and the OLED still looked way better because the black levels are the most important things to get right on a tv period hands down

Good video. Thanks. One mistake... you said "when LG has an 8K" they already do. Of course it's huge and costs 30K but thier's is true 8K with 90% contrast resolution that OLED can produce.

It's too early for 8K comparison when there's no content for it

I don't know what it is but videos uploaded by Norm look weird compared to Adams videos like Norms videos look slightly blurry making his skin look clayish if you know what I mean, While Adams shop videos of him doing his one day build videos look clear and sharp as ever even though both are on 1080p settings and from the same channel. Whats with that?

I'm not bashing norms stuff I LOVE his tech stuff just noting picture quality while its a topic.
