I agree, monitor manufacturers that put matte finishes on their monitors ESPECIALLY on oleds should be criminally charged

Coming from a matte screen to a glossy one. I can absolutely confirm that the glossy looks much much better. It was more of a difference than I would have ever expected

the text fringing on the samsung is more noticable because of the clearer pixels (glossy) and the brighter colors. even then, the fringing is barely visiable and should no longer be an issue with these kind of displays.

I feel like you've missed out on pointing out why QD-OLED has better colors, and what that means for the actual experienced brightness, as opposed to measured white brightness.
Reason being the W-OLED white subpixel washing out effect of other colors at lower and higher APLs.

White boosting brightness by subsequently washing out the actual colors is in my opinion the main reason that makes WOLED inferior to QD-OLED. (Next to LG Display insisting on putting godawful matte coatings on their monitor panels.)

"WOLED panels can only reach their higher white luminance using the “white boost” from their additional white sub-pixel, but for occasions where this is needed (smaller APL <25%) it can lead to some wash-out of the image and the brighter colours cannot be achieved as well.

The WOLED panels show “volumetric collapse” at higher luminance levels where the white boost is utilised a lot more. The QD-OLED panel can achieve significantly brighter colours than the WOLED panel for HDR overall." - from TFTCentral's study

Having the 27 of both ASUS WOLED and AW QDOLED.
The grain is so obvious under certain conditions it’s unbelievable. Colors don’t just POP they also tend to visually increase the contrast especially on edges on things like muzzle flash or other light sources.
To me I just can’t go back.

I fondly recall my LG CX, which was my first OLED television. I initially held it in high regard until I acquired my first Samsung QD-OLED television, the S95B, which truly impressed me. Currently, I am considering purchasing a PC monitor for my gaming PC and am contemplating the 32-inch QD-OLED Alienware.

Basically what you’re saying is that there will never be a perfect monitor.

Matte coatings are a solution to a customer problem with ambient light and direct reflections, it solves what you’re complaining about with the light spreading on QD OLED and mirror like reflections on WOLED, but you also don’t want it because it will ruin clarity.

So what’s the choice? What should people buy?

They’re both great technologies and way better than anything in the monitor market in the past… ever.

Have to say QD OLED takes an easy win everywhere though. It’s already been commented on but it’s such a superior technology for almost every desktop applications including editing with a much wider color gamut available.

I love the glossy sharpness of the Samsung 49" G9 OLED, but I've been through 3 of them, definite quality control issues, also wish there was a little more vertical space. Got the 45" LG UG OLED while waiting on a service call for the G9 and I'm happy with it as well. It runs cool, doesn't smell like burning wire, and the menus are much better. All of my TVs are LG and are all fantastic. I wish the Samsung G9 didn't have the problems it did, it is beautiful, but reliability and quality control is kind of important.

3:32 Let's be real though, if you're spending over $1000 on a monitor, then they should have better coatings than the matte options *and* the QD-OLEDs that don't have a polarizer leading to ambient light flooding the display in brighter environments, which I'm pretty sure will be a turn off for most rooms and users.

Why can't we have a proper glossy OLED screen with a polarizer and Gorilla Glass!?

yea I liked how TFT explained or gave an example, of QD having more Color Volume, can make us (our eyes) Perceive it as "brighter" however measurements will show it as less "bright". its not a simple 1:1 ratio of Measured Brighter must = better. WOLED getting brighter but with less color is inferior to QD's more color less bright. At least right now with how close they are anyways. if the gap gets much larger on WOLED, then that may change whats "best".

but for now, More color at almost as bright > less color but "brighter"

WOLED's new RGWB panels may change everything (without the matte). we will see.

anyone that has tried a glossy monitor AND likes dark rooms will be forever ruined by it, thats just how it is, only reason we have to deal with these stupid mudcoats on every monitor is early LCDs trash brightness and contrast basically made them unusable without it, now that we have 1000nit panels this is just absurd, at least make that garbage optional like CRT filters

Idk what you're talking about with the qdoled text fringing. I'm trying to see it and can't. I have 20/15 vision

@thedisplayguy: which monitor would you choose :
Asus PG32UQX or Asus pg32ucdm ?
I've bought the PG32UQX for 800€ instead of 3500€ and pretty blown away with it ^^

I’ve got a QD OLED panel. I haven’t experienced the problem with light shining on it causing black to go grey. But my monitor is tilted down slightly and I don’t shine flashlights on it while I use it either.

Dough doesn't make OLED monitors yet. The spectrum one is LCD, and the Black is a preorder only

decent chunk of the compliance against the LG OLED isn't really an issue on the C2 TVs as there a glossy TV which is what I use for my gaming. I am interested in the quantum dots. I do not work with my computer. I a game and watch shows

ambient light reflecting off your monitor isnt an issue if you are a darkness dweller like me.
