My decision to wait for reviews of the 9000 series then buying a 7800X3D is getting better by the day.

AMD screwed up their 9000 series marketing so badly the 7800X3D's went up in price...

I own a 5950x and went down the rabbit hole on this one. Turns out admin mode for even my old 5950x proved to have a 8-10FPS boost in most games that were CPU bound. Following AMD's lead I installed the windows 11 insider preview 24H2 Version 26100.... Needless to say an upgrade in place did not work, so I backed up my entire current system with an image file. I literally wiped all my SSD's NVME and oldschool SSD alike, and for the first time in like 5 years, started from scratch making a bootable USB drive with the insider preview ISO via Rufus.. Thank you Rufus. Long story short, Identical settings in CPU bound games at 4k all have a significant performance uplift.... Looks like this problem may go all the way back to Zen 3 and nobody noticed at AMD or Microsoft.... Branch prediction code blah blah blah aside... the preview version of windows is now my daily driver and it is quicker in games.

I was waiting for the 9000 series to upgrade my 5900x, saw the reviews and ended up getting a discounted 7950x3D. I've been loving it so far for rendering, work and of course gaming.

Gamers seem to forget that gaming is a small portion of computer users snd hardware companies' income. Zen 5 is a good product for basically everyone except desktop PC gamers. Even for them, it's still decent, just not much of an upgrade.

Very intersting. AMD's mess up with the 9k series really is disappointing for sure. I will stay with my Ryzen 9 7950X3D for the forseeable future. Let's hope both AMD and Intel can get their respective situations taken care of sooner then later.

I've been planning to do a new build at the very end of 2025 so I think I'll just sit back and relax while seeing who comes out on top and has less problems before I decide between arrowlake or 9800x3d

Hot take: The drama around Ryzen 9000 performance is over blown, the performance is what is and if you dont like it, dont buy it. And anyone who bought a CPU already should return their CPU if they dont like the performance. Next time wait for independent reviews.
