AMD and Radeon Are In DEEP Trouble! - Defective Graphics Cards & Deadly Drivers

AMD are one of the companies in the PC hardware world who have been at the forefront for bringing new generational products to market. However since the launch of the Ryzen 7000 series and their Radeon RX 7000 series, the companies been going through some rocky challenges. Most recently, after poking fun at their competitors for having thermal issues, their RX 7900XTX graphics cards appear to be having some major problems of their own. They way AMD has handled the situation was quite poor and users are left frustrated dealing with a problem that isn’t even their own fault & holding back performance. Along with that a German hardware repair channel known as krisfix-germany recently made a video that AMD’s own drivers are allegedly killing off previous gen RX 6000 series graphics cards and even going as far as cracking dies which is extremely bizarre.

EDIT: Krisfix-Germany has posted an update video. I would highly recommend watching it to get more info on the matter.
Turns out all the cards they attained for repair came from the same source. It is alleged that the cards came from someone who was running a mining operation however the damage wasn't from mining but rather from the way the cards were kept stored in humid conditions. It is not due to the drivers. You can rest easy now and not have to worry about breaking your GPU just from updating drivers. I did state that more information on the matter is needed and it was bizarre to assume to that GPU dies were cracking from just drivers.

Its a shame to see AMD drop the ball so hard when they had a golden opportunity to claw back market share from Nvidia. Unlike previous generations, everyone seems to be in mutual agreement that they're done with Nvidia's garbage tactics in the GPU market. Instead of capitalizing on it, AMD decided to just join them. On top of that their anti-consumer behavior makes it difficult to recommend, people will see this & continue to buy Nvidia even if they don't want to because you want a product that at least works at the end of the day with minimal trouble.

Driver physically cracking the chip is a utter nonsense. Massive temperature spike or massive voltage spike may but none of that was observed. The only logical conclusion was a defective silicon with flaw that was there from the moment it was build.

As an owner of a Ryzen 3600 and an RX 580, it pains me to see Another Massive Disappointment. AMD really needs to step up their A game, if they want to keep bringing the competition to Intel. Let alone Nvidia. As the smaller tiered company, they can't afford to make these kinds of mistakes. Intel can screw up with their Arc cards, because they have tons of Microsoft money.

Jensen sent his henchmen to work for the AMD drivers team

It feels like that the Radeon division is happy to be where they are, in mediocrity and don't try to push above their weight like the CPU side of AMD did with Ryzen.

thank you danny ❤️. bought a 6950xt and called it a day after 2 yrs of waiting and not succumbing to both companies' crap.

Sadly, you completely jumped the gun with this...
Look at the update from the original source.
At least one GPU is physically cracked.
On top of this, most seemingly affected gpus still work fine with the mentioned driver from 8th december 2022.
The described failure mode also excludes a driver issue.

I think there is more to it than drivers. A chip can die of a bad driver like the fan problem another GPU maker had many years ago, but cracking silicon? Excessive temps don't cause cracked silicon. Maybe the driver will have to deliver way too much voltage.

A cooler installed with too much pressure is more likely. Or a batch made with impurities like when TSMC announced they got some contaminated materials that were causing problems, that could be too.

My build has a Ryzen 5600X and I just upgraded my Sapphire Radeon RX 570 NItro+ 8GB with a Sapphire Radeon RX 6700 XT Pulse 12GB. Not a single problem with the card or with the drivers. After watching a lot of YouTube videos about the supposed AMD problems, it appears a lot of the fuss is subjective reporting, click bait misinformation and a heaping pile of hyperbole.

Many, if not all, of the testers on YouTube have stated that the GPU problems are mostly related to AMD's reference cards. They also stated that they have not heard of any problems with partner configs.

I'll be using my 2070 super for the next 5 years. Fuck these prices.

I watched all the trouble with the nvidia connector and for sometime they were silent and after they said it was user error and then they started doing something. so i dont see much diference on how amd is handling its not much better

Just an FYI for anyone interested. My backup rig has a reference 6800XT in it and just recently I did the driver update and now I am getting a wierd coil whine with the card that was not there before. The card is still working but I have reservations about for how long. It was and is the last AMD product I will ever own

the fact that there zero 7900xtx in stock ANYWHERE pretty much means amd is struggling to keep up with rma's and stocking the shelves

I really wanted to go AMD this time but the perf/price of cpu's and driver/hardware problems of their gpu's made loose faith ! I work hard for my money i cant afford to throw away 2k

I sent back my 5700xt nitro+ as I had black screens and AMD dragged their feet with fixing that. I just swapped it for a 2070super that’s worked fine from the minute I turned it on. I upgrade from my 3600x this year and tbh it’s looking like I’m hopping back to intel. AMD have pushed so far that efficiency and value have just been thrown out the window for profit, AMD have become intel.

If people have a defective reference 7900xtx and its actually the GPU you want... Once you return or get refund, aib models are still an option. Its what I did and very happy with my Red Devil 7900xtx. It was only $50 more that reference model and several hundred less than the asus tuf 4080 I picked up after returning the defective reference 7900xtx. I returned the 4080 for the Red Devil which is the faster card.
As far as drivers, never had an issue with the 6900xtx I used all last generation. The card just kept getting faster. Hoping for the same with the 7900xtx. I also like AMD's software better, one stop shop for over clocking and no need for msi afterburner or such

Honestly im glad that I didn’t take in with anyone’s boycott over nvidia and just bought a 4080 even with the high price at least i wont worry about any defects it MIGHT have

Not only did they drop the ball with this gpu generation but they still want to gauge their customers at the same time and that’s the worst of it!

Are we forgetting the 6900xt where for 2 years I couldn't play warzone because of the drivers?

cracking dies on 6900/6800 are probably from goobers tightening their water blocks down too much.
