Going through this right now. My ex and I had a mutual breakup- we actually were planning on breaking up on the same day haha. It went smoothly, albeit with tears and such. I never liked staying friends with exes, but I decided to give it a shot with this girl. Honestly, it was weird. She acted like we were still dating, and I found myself enjoying it. This was a huge red flag for me, because I liked it but knew it was wrong. So I ended it. It was hard, and recent, but I'm staying strong.

Here's what happened with me, my ex broke up with me, it was a long serious relationship and I never saw it coming that he would break up with me because we were like so in love. But after breaking up he said I'm gonna be there for you as a friend. I really didn't know what to say because I was in state of major heartbreak and shock so i didn't cut him off because i wasn't ready to accept it. Though he said he'll stay by my side as a friend, he kept saying things like "i love you so much", "you are the love of my life", "I love you but i can't be in relationship with you" and this kept going on for 6 fucking months until i decided to cut off all the strings. This hurts like hell but at least I don't feel tortured.

Never stay friends if there’s no kids involved. Best put energy and time into meeting new people. This is how I moved into a relationship that I could move forwards with and forget about my ex who really had no good intentions with me long term. Cut and forget the ex

I don't believe in staying friends with any of my ex's. When it's over, it's over. The host is absolutely right when he states that if you share kids, you do need to be amicable and cordial but after your kids grow up and they're old enough that they can keep in touch with their dad that you don't need to be in the middle, then it's ok to cut ties.
