Normally, the triceps are the limiting factor on bench press, preventing you from training your pectorals to failure. By pre exhausting the pectorals with Dumbbell Flyes, you allow your pectorals to reach failure before the triceps do. Since the triceps are fresh, they assist in pushing the pectorals to and past failure. This logic works on all compound movements.

For anyone who is confused here:

He is stating that by doing isolation work on a muscle like a chest fly before doing a compound lift like bench press, you are essentially fatiguing the ideal muscle first and then when you come to do your compound lift it is the chest that will reach muscular failure first before your triceps. This is ideal if you’re wanting to build your chest as muscular failure is only true driver of growth

This is such a smart idea how have I never heard of this before?

I personally do the opposite, go from a compound exercise to an isolation exercise because it works the same way by excluding the weaker muscles but also means I don't have the same technique breakdown from fatigue that I would have by doing a compound exercise directly after an isolation exercise. It's works for me and I recommend if you have find your form breaks down quickly from fatigue then do it in that order instead.

YESSSS, GREAT "LOGICAL" IDEA, , "PRE-EXHAUSTION", , , , sacrifice the BENCH for the PEC DECK, , & the SQUAT or LEG PRESS for that great quad builder, the LEG EXTENSION.
BRILLIANT ‼️😳🤓😂😂🤦🙄🥳

Ok I don't get it. On my push days I do flat Dumbbell press, incline press, then cable flys. So isn't doing the presses in a way pre exhausting the pecs then going to failure on flys the same thing? Maybe its not optimal but it sounds like the same principal.

I honestly think it’s much better to a heavy compound lift then exhaust it afterwards. You’ll be able to lift much heavier causing more growth and strength gains

I’ll definitely try this, I always feel like my triceps are hindering me. I’ll still definitely work them out so they could catch up

Yeah, I was told that building one's tris would make the 'sticking point' come at a higher rep. So, I used to do a tricep bomb once per week in addition to my regular arm/shoulder days. My gains after just one month were pretty amazing.

This guy is a total madman . But this type of training won't work for all. Cutler never trains to failure and look at how big he is

Ok i like Metzger...but i don't agree, you just have to get under the bar and feel it out. 1. Elbows near the torso you feel your arms working. 2. Elbows flared out and you feel your chest muscles.
