My biggest issue regarding stretching is if my underused muscles can sustain that stretching tension, even for a tiny bit.
One of my weakest muscle area is the hips; now, I can walk fine for a long period time, no problem with the flexion and extension of the hips and legs. It's whenever I move even for a few millimeters to the side (internal or external) that my psoases are retching pain. Whenever I enter or exit a car, I get flares in that area.
I'm not asking to become the next John Cena or an Olympic gymnast, but I want to be able to do the most easiest stretches that anyone should be able to do normally.

It’s not so much that my muscles are stiff, but that I experience nerve pain, behind my knees, when I stretch. Do you recommend starting with bent knees and over time relaxing into locked position ?

Is holding a stretch such as a seated groin stretch for 30-60 minutes bad?
