My first car was a 2009 Honda Fit. My parents bought it new in the 2008 recession bc of its price and it’s gas mileage and that was the best decision ever. It has 173k miles on it now and it hopefully still has several several thousand left. I can get 40 mpg on the highway and 30-35 in town. People are always surprised by how much space is the trunk can hold bc it’s a hatchback. It’s not great in the Midwest’s winter bc of its low profile but it’s not meant for that. I have taken on some back country trails for hiking though and it was okay. I have a battery car starter in my car for emergencys and I’ve have to help 4+ friends with jumping their car but never mine. I’d recommend the Fit to anyone who wants a low maintenance, extremely reliable car as it’s such an amazing all around car to have. Very grateful that it was my first car.

2015 and newer Honda fits are excellent. I found a 2015 honda fit with no accidents 80k miles which is the ex-l trim which has a ton of features, and leather seats, heated seats, sunroof, all the fun stuff.

Best car buying advice that I ever received is to be looking for your next car before you need one and be prepared to buy one when you find a good deal. Personally, I won't ever spend more than $10k on a car. My current vehicles are an 09 Camry that I bought with 95k on it for $4500. Still running great with 217k and the only thing that has broken is the inside trunk release. I also have an 02 Silverado ext cab long bed 4x4 that I bought with 56k on it for $9700. It now has 342k and also still running great. So combined I paid $14200 and personally have driven them 408k miles and both are still going strong.

I have a 20+ year old Honda Civic. That rusty old car is still as great as ever.

I really enjoyed my 2008 Toyota Yaris, it was able to get almost 50mpg highway miles, not bad for a standard 4 cylinder car without hybrid technology.

The Fit is no longer a secret, and nice ones have become pricey. Besides the pandemic, Fits were discontinued in the US after 2020, making the older ones in demand for its fans.

I love how in today's market, none of these are under 10k unless you find a really high mileage one or one that looks like it's been to hell and back.

Loved this video! Great info that is perfect for -- in my case -- a parent who will soon need to purchase a car for his teenager

I have a 2011 Yaris with 215, 000 miles. Nothing but routine oil changes, one battery replacement, 2 serpentine belts and a ac fan. Great buy. Will drive forever

I’m just glad my F150 made the list! However I have the 3.6 V6 Dual and with 212, xxx miles I can def vouch for its reliability! Just keep that engine oil clean.

Pontiac G6 with the 3.5 6 cylinder engine. If well maintained it is a good solid car for under 5 or 10K.

ON THE PRIUS battery failure is less rare in warm or hot climates like the desert southwest, Florida, etc. Replacing the battery is around $4K. Here in Southern CA I know two friends who had to replace their Prius batteries right as they went out of warranty, around 100K miles.

Just what I needed! I love my 2014 Nissan Versa but sadly when I purchased it new I didn't read nor hear about CVT transmissions. I had the oil changed religiously but no one was checking the trans fluid. Apparently it can't be checked, you just have to remember to change the fluid every 60k. Fast forward and now the rebuilt trans I purchased is having issues. CVT scares me unless it's a brand new car and I'm super diligent about the fluid. So, with a very tight budget I'm in the market for something used for around $10k. Thank you for doing the research. This just isn't my forte!

Where can you find a forerunner or a f150 for under 10k??!! Impossible unless it’s a crashed piece of junk! & even those are selling at auctions these days.
