My only comment would be, if you are buying a used car, via a private sale, make sure to have an accredited mechanic check it out first. Just a good step to take😊

This is where the Dave Ramsey listeners should get introduced to Scotty Kilmer; the Dave Ramsey of car information!

Every car I’ve ever bought is a used car success story. Even if they needed repairs, didn’t have to worry about any kind of car payment ever

Totally agree with you, Rachel. I bought the love of my life Toyota Camry 98 for $5K cash < 50K miles. Best investment to pay off my mortgage. Today, I am debt free, no mortgage, own a house in CALIFORNIA (yes very expensive area my house $650K) and my net worth > $1 million. No family no government assistance. I am a clerk. I am no one special. My only superpower is staying out of debt. America is the BEST place to make your dreams come true. I will never sell my Camry. I love her. She's the reason that I am debt free.

As an automotive technician, the safe bets are definitely Honda and Toyota. Both have good reliability and parts and maintenance are inexpensive. I've seen cars like 10 to 15 year old Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords that still run good with over 200K miles when properly maintained.

2005 Prius $4k bought 2020
Going strong - gas savers - very reliable and easy and cheap to repair as needed. ❤😊

Purchased my 2013 Subaru Impreza with 90k miles on it with a KBB price of $12, 000 for $10, 000 total(tags, taxes, a couple of minor repairs) Used your videos on here during my research on cars, so thanks Rachel! My whole family was shocked that I bought a car with cash, never been done by any member of my fam

I didn't buy it used, but we have a 2005 Honda Odyssey purchased new. Still runs great. We also have a 2009 Toyota Camry we bought 3 years ago with 80K miles. Love Hondas and Toyotas. They are made to last and they are not too expensive to maintain and repair.

I've heard a tip that if you are just tired of your old car, spend 350 bucks if in your budget on a full interior and exterior showroom detail to make it like new and clean. Sometimes people are just tired of the old dustyness from a car but its actually still a good car. Thoughts on this?

While we are on our debt free journey we also saved 10K to buy our daughter her first car. We were able to find a 2014 Ford Focus Sport for $8, 000. My only advice is don't be in a hurry to buy. Cars in this price range disappear quickly I called about a few prior to this one, and by the time I had a dealer call back the cars had already sold. I think we looked for about 10 months before we found something, but once you find it you need to have the money to purchase.

This is encouraging. My current car is a 2002 Alero. Still runs great. Saving for a newer car. Read average price is 32000!

I bought my 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid in Feb 2013. It had 11, 000 miles and was used as a courtesy car at Toyota Cool Springs. At the time they were also offering free lifetime power train warranty, which I haven’t had to use to this day. I found the car for $25k online, which was cheaper than the dealer had it on the lot, so they honored the online price. At the time I was driving from Lewisburg to Nashville and back daily for work and to this day I still travel a lot for military duty. It has over 260k miles and has never had any major issues. We have always done the suggestion services. To add to this, only because I was listening to to Dave and Rachel’s calls the other day on millionaires….. We have a net worth of $1.5m (800k retirement, 200k stocks, 2 properties and about 100k cash). I still drive my 260k mileage Camry. My husband still drives his 2013 Toyota Corolla with about 160k miles (bought the same day as mine but new for 18k). And just to be clear, I have every intention of trying to cash in those two powertrain warranties WHEN something happens to one of our engines or transmissions 😝. I plan to give my car to our daughter when she starts driving in 4 years and buy me another Camry ❤.

2012 Ford Fusion, 200k miles, it runs like a dream. In 2017 we also bought a 2005 Toyota Camry for our son to use at college. It had one prior owner and the interior was pristine. It ran like a champ.

Bought a brand new 2011 Honda civic straight out of college off the lot. Paid it off in 2016 and still drive it to this day as my main car.

Currently has 233, 000 miles on it, and I absolutely love it. No issues, it's incredibly reliable and amazing. It will definitely last at least until 300, 000 miles. Which we will buy another used Honda. I can't speak more highly of them.

About 2 months ago my car got totaled, 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis with 75k miles that I bought 5 years ago for $4, 000.
Since my wife has a car and I have been working from home for almost 20 years, it was not an emergency.
I am just now starting to look for a good used Toyota Sienna for about $7k.
