The Ultimate Argument Against Sola Scriptura.

We will show through this video how Sola Scriptura or Bible Alone, one of the Five Solas of the Protestant Reformation, is actually, and quite literally, self-refuting.

The Syllogism:

(1) The canon of the Bible cannot be known through natural reason.
(2) All knowledge is either attained by natural reason or testimony.
(3) Therefore, the canon of the Bible is know through testimony.
(from (1) and (2))

(4) The authority X on whose testimony we accept the canon can be wrong (fallible) or it cannot (infallible).
(5) If it is fallible, the canon of the Bible can be wrong.
(6) If the canon of the Bible can be wrong, the Bible can be wrong.
(7) The Bible cannot be wrong.
(8) The canon of the Bible cannot be wrong. (from (6) and (7))

(9) Authority X cannot be fallible.(from (5) and (8))
(10) Authority X is infallible. (from (4) and (9))

(11) Authority X is either the Bible itself or not.
(12) If the Bible is the authority, then it would be a vicious circle.
(13) The Bible is not the authority.(from (11) and (12))

(14) There is an authority/testimony that is
A. Not the Bible (from (13))
B. Infallible (from (10))
C. A source of Divine Revelation (since the canon of the Bible is Divinely Revealed)

1. Man is fallible.
2. The church is comprised of fallible men.
3. The church, as an organization of fallible men, cannot be infallible.
4. God is the only infallible entity.
5. God, by His divine power, has sometimes caused fallible men to write certain things in such a way that they are infallible. (John 16:13, the Spirit guides us into all truth)
6. To preserve these infallible writings, God has sometimes influenced fallible men to recognize the infallible writings for what they are.
7. The influence of God upon these men (whether in council or otherwise) was punctuated and specific
8. Therefore we cannot assume that God's punctuated, specific inspirations render these men or their organization infallible in all things.
9. The Catholic Church's claim of Magisterial infallibility depends upon self-veridication, by means of circular reasoning.
10. The Magisterium is not infallible.
11. The Magisterium cannot be regarded as an infallible authority in establishing the Canon of the Bible.
12. God, the only infallible entity, is the infallible authority who guided the church (by the Holy Spirit) to establish the Canon of the Bible.
13. The Bible and God are the only infallible sources of authority.
14. Sola Scriptura is only refuted insofar as it neglects to mention the punctuated divine movements of God within individuals.
