Even after the printing press, many ordinary people could not read.

Hi Blue Collar!! Printing Press was invented in 1440. Bishop in England introduced chapters and verses into the Bible the Latin Vulgate in mid 13th century. It’s was Catholic Church that introduced the verses and chapters to make reading easier for clergy and laity.

That’s right. And whenever I hear an objection from Protestants, I first raise Sola Scriptura before I answer any objections. Because we have to establish where our theology is coming from in the first place before we discuss what’s inside the Bible.

Protestant response respectfully submitted. Sola Scriptura has never mean’t Bible Alone. That is utterly false. Any Evangelicals who teach this are absolutely uninformed about what Sola Scriptura means. Any Roman Catholic apologist spreading this falsehood should get better informed. Classical Protestantism has never taught that an individual believer can understand Scripture by one’s self and by itself, i.e., in isolation from the history of the church and in isolation from the communion of the saints.

I thought of a t shirt for ya. On the back put the quote...you would know who it is..."Evangelize always, sometimes use words" ....maybe not the exact quote. On the front put "Catholic Christian-LIVE IT!" I'd buy it.

My friend the tradition was based on the Word of God also known as Sola Scriptura. Those who could read would pass down the Word of God to those who couldn't. Nothing you said refutes Sola Scriptura. Keep studying and reading.

Jesus didn't bring salvation to only those who could read. Many people think that knowing the bible will get them into the gates of heaven, when in reality, it depends on how you treat others and whether you loved your neighbor as Jesus told us we must. There will be many people who will be saved even though they did not know the bible that well, and some who do know the bible well may be lost.
