The opening statement of this video says "Without the use of pigment or paintbrushes, could the Turin Shroud have been faked? Luigi Garlaschelli thinks he has the answer"

FACT: Luigi Garlaschelli uses pigment to create coloring in this video. Anyone see a problem with the opening statement?

Forensic facts of this case:
There are no significant traces of paint, pigment, dye, ink or stain
*The image is purely superficial, penetrating only the top two microfibrils
*No directionality to the image as with brush strokes
*No outline to the image as would be necessary for it to be a work of art
*No cementing of fibrils as would occur with the application of any liquid substance
*Uniform intensity on both front and back images. No variations in density
*No particles between the threads, which excludes any kind of powder rubbing

*No liquids used to create image except for the blood images. No paint binder
*The original is a "negative" capable of producing a photographic positive that appears to be a crucified man

There is an overlooked difference between being a "skeptic" vs. being in denial.

One of the coolest discoveries about the shroud was that the blood was there before the image was made...what artist would place the blood stains first then produce the image?

As an artist myself who's been been studying the Shroud for years, the devil is in the details. No artist would go to the kind of detail that is inclusive in the Shroud of Turin. Sure, the similar surface look may be possible, but if you believe this guy's theory, that "artist" would have had to use a real dead body that had been beaten and scourged exactly as written in the Bible to get what is shown on the Shroud- making wounds in the exact places, flagrum marks made 40 times for the whip stripes, the Crown of Thorns, and the wound in the side. And what about plant seeds ONLY from Jerusalem that were found on the Shroud? You couldn't just hop a plane in the 13th century for that type of item. Plus he used real human blood? You want to talk major blasphemy at the time? And the exact same blood type and characteristics were found on another venerated cloth 1000+ miles away, which just happened to match placement on the face of the shroud? I think he's gripping.

Does the reproduced shroud also contain 3D information?

In 1978 a group of scientists analyzed in detail the shroud with the most technologically advanced equipment at that time and they determined that the Shroud of Turin is not a paint, is not a burn fabric, is something that can not be made for any human or technology, at least at that time. Even today, we don't have the technology to make a shroud with the same quality, characteristics, and 3D information. The shroud has lots of chemical, physical, biological information unknown in the medieval time and also has 3D information on the image of a body flagellated, crucified to death with wounds of nails on the wrists and not on the palms which is anatomically correct and something unknown in the middle ages/ medieval period. Some other important fact is that the shroud contains blood stains with bilirubin levels match those of a person who suffers from a lot of pain and death from asphyxiation, something also unknown in the middle ages/medieval time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the shroud the entire length of a body and isn't it also the front and the back of a body. You'd need a statue not a relief and you'd need a pretty big oven. Umm, o yea, and aren't there no signs of paint pigment on it like ochre?

This documentery doesn't address the 3d information contained in the image. It also doesn't mention that the carbon 14 test that dated the shrouds age to be about six hundred years old, was found to be erroneous because the part of the linen that they got the sample from, was right where there was a repair of the cloth after the shroud was burned by a fire. The repair was six hundred years old.

Does the copy made on the video have 3D properties like the Shroud of Turin?

"There's a number of people, that are completely convinced the shroud is a fake. No matter how many times they fail to recreate or explain its existence by natural means, they will never accept the miraculous explanation"

Wait so if this is from the Middle Ages how did the creator know to make it so that photographic negatives in the future would reveal the full image? This just one of the many questions not addressed by this guy.

"After YEARS of trying, he THINKS he's come up with the answer!"

How smart they must have been in the Middle Ages to anticipate this guy.

Really just really with all that he did it looks like a 3 year olds coffee aging project from school and he is a scientist?!?!?

ok..send it to the same labs as the shroud has been to and show us what they say

His copy does not explain the many details in the image on the shroud [including it's 3D photographic imagery] or the presence of real blood.  The blood contains properties that only can be explained by torture and death just like Jesus experienced. Anyone who takes the time to research the shroud will dismiss this outright as ridiculous.  I am not a Catholic  and I know this.

Checks all the boxes? What boxes? Who was willing to be beaten so badly to bleed on the shroud if it was faked? This is far from convincing

lol this doesn't replicate the image at all. He's produced something which looks vaguely similarish but replicates none of the real properties of the image on the shroud.

This is laughably bad.

this video should be titled, "how not to make a Shroud of Turin". This is ridiculous

This type of thing really bothers me because it's dishonest and misleads the viewer ... and they know it. Using this technique the replica does look similar to the naked eye, but if you examine it scientifically it falls short of the actual Shroud in so many ways.

The thing is, that's blood on the shroud, not some other chemical substance.
