1. Location Location Location
- People often when thinking about moving to the Dominican Republic or outside the us, think about living somewhere that’s really expensive ( Punta Cana, Santo Domingo or Puerto Plata )
- People assume that the more expensive something is, then the safer and better it has to be
Here in DR:
- Theirs a big business in gated communities
- These lots and properties sell for a lot more and people think they are safe
- Truth is, if someone really wants to do something, they will do it
What I learned is this:
- You have Expensive ( Gated )
- HiGh-end Neighborhoods ( not gated but really safe )
- Normal (average people live their, Safe )
- Ghetto ( you don’t want to live here )
We live in a Normal Neighborhood
- People are poor, poor doesn’t mean ghetto and dangerous
- People work and have normal homes
- And I feel really safe, I paid 156 dollars looking into a potential new apartment which will cost me about $288 but its nicer and bigger
Example: You live in the country side here, you won't be safer anywhere else, but a lot of people re afraid to live that way.
2. You ( well I mean me )
- I used to come here In on vacation to Dominican republic
- Wearing jordans, flashing my iphone and looking super cool
- My mom had gold jewelry and all the sparkly things
You know what that sounds like:
- Making yourself a target
- People who live this way here, have to know that and they are willing to take the risk
- But I’m not
My family:
- We dress average
- We look average
- We drive average
- Their no reason to stand out
However:
- If you want to have expensive stuff
- And drive expensive
- That’s where those gated and expensive neighborhoods are going to come into play
- Because you may become a target
3. Almost alert and adapting
- We go out, and we lock our car doors to make sure no one tries anything
- We don’t walk with a lot of cash, maybe $10
Something I did was:
- I’m selling my Apple watch and bought a Casio watch
