For me chainging dentists was the best decision ever. My old dentist never discussed anything, he just took the decission. I had several fillings without numbing, and he didn't seemed to care about the pain. He almost never took x-rays, and staff was chanching very quickly. I always felt everything was about money. Also I was very anxious and too shy to say anything. Luckily I moved and found alovely new dentist. She is very kind, explains everything and takes me into the decissionmaking process. Altough I had a lot of fillings done, I now am only a little nervous and taking very good care of my teeth because of their instructions. Wished I made a switch years ago!

I just started seeing a new dentist and was really surprised by the first appointment. The hygienist was the one to show me around the office, full tour. From exam room to X-ray\mri room to the sanitation room, even the dentists personal office! It was the longest dentist appointment I had ever had! The hygienist was so thorough as was the dentist! They even caught the fact that the previous dentist had flipped my X-rays and marked the wrong teeth for root canals! I am a week post surgery now (quite a lot of work to be done because of everything my previous dentists had done to me but she was able to save so many teeth that had been marked for extraction or root canals!) and my teeth feel great! I have a two more appointments till my teeth are at 100% but for the first time in my life I’m not scared to go see my dentist!

My old dentist gave me so much anxiety I avoided the dentist for two years. I always felt that he wasn't thorough for my actual concerns. Once, i went with an obvious cavity (there was some visible decay) and he completely ignored it. I went to a new dentist today and finally learned what a dental hygienist was and got my plaque scraped for the first time ever as well as my first ever fluoride varnish

1- do they have a dental hygienist
2- gum checks
3- how long does a typical cleaning appointment last?
4- how often do they take x-rays
5- infection control (ask for tour of sterilisation area)

Do they do procedures in office or get referrals?
Referrals are important.

I am a hygienist turned general dentist. I have done all of my own hygiene for almost 30 years. I refer out endo, placing implants, most extractions, ortho, perio surgeries - things I don't enjoy doing. I do bondings, crowns, bridges, restore I have a small office and I don't make a lot of money. Just bc you are a dentist, it doesn't mean you have to do every single dental procedure out there. I enjoyed hygiene and wanted to do more. But once I learned more, I found I don't enjoy every single aspect of dentistry. So, I stick to what I like doing and let the specialists do their thing.

I had a dentist who left two cottons inside my two teeth while doing fillings, and I ended up developing cysts, infections, and lost both of my teeth. I immediately got dental implants to avoid my teeth from closing the gaps & bone loss. My parents filed a lawsuit against the dentist.

I was very happy with my dentist and after 12 years, he left that practice and went somewhere else for a couple of years. Then my hygienist retired early. I stayed there for about 2 more years and then found that my original dentist opened his own practice and I went back to him. I was so happy he came back. I trust him implicitly and he is honest about any diagnosis there might be.

I miss my old dentist. He retired (after 50 years i believe) but he was a master of his craft and an awesome upstanding individual. I never had a BAD expereince with him and his team for the 19 years I went there. I have to find a new dentist now :(

My doctor is from India living in the US and she is the best! So sweet and always lays a light hand on my shoulder to check I’m okay or if I need numbing! Love her and the staff, I really lucked out 💜✨

AWESOME! I will never understand the dentists that do not have dental hygienists! I had one from day one! important! Every "routine cleaning" with my hygienists is 1 hour. Scaling and Root Planing can be much longer. And the Hygienist' also have assistants available to them for many things (charting, x-rays, etc., etc.) As always great job!

Definitely time for a new dentist, my dentist is always saying I have like 5 million problems and gave me a crown at 17.... I really don’t think I needed a crown.... he also is very impatient with any kind of filling app and doesn’t wait until you’re completely numb and also uses a prophy jet which I absolutely hate because I’m sensitive and I tell them I don’t like it and they don’t care

My old dentist didn’t wait for the numb stuff to kick in during filling, they rudely judged my teeth when I was 12 and they were very rough and impatient. And they only talked about money and never discussed decisions with me and what I’m comfortable with

After watching this, I realised how terrible my dentist is! When I go for my cleaning and general check up, I’m done in around 5 minutes, the worst part is, I have never felt any rinse and suction when I’m with him. He gets the mirror and scaler and scrapes a bit of the plaque off. I’m 19 years old and I’m dating a 29 year old dentist but he isn’t my dentist, and I’m thinking to go to him. I’m currently in dental hygiene school (because of you, Whitney!) and I’ve even noticed at 2 years into dental hygiene school how bad he is. Whenever I come home from the dentist, my boyfriend always checks my teeth in case he didn’t do it properly and for as long as I can remember, my.p boyfriend practically cleans my teeth again after I come home because of the terrible job he did. I’m transferring to my boyfriends office now! My first dental appointment with him is on this coming Tuesday! Wish my luck, haha. 🙌

Thanks so much for your channel. You are so much more competent than some dentists out there. I've had very bad experiences with a handful of them.

One thing I am looking for is if the dentist and workers don’t yell at you or scold you. I don’t need to be scolded. I need help getting my mouth healthy. That is one reason I haven’t been to the dentist. That and insurance. Lol! Now I have insurance. Praise God! :)

I been going to the same dental practice all my life, and seen a number of dentist, as we can either go NHS or private in the United Kingdom , the dentist I see been seeing for 13 years, and she has owned the practice for 10 years, always talks us through our x-rays, does x-rays every 12-18 months unless we have problems before.

I love when my patients ask me about how we sterilize our instruments.

Thanks so much for this. I went to the dentist for the first time after the pandemic and was glad that my appointment was short. I thought that my visit was strange only after I left. The dentist only looked at the X-rays (I think)and did not actually look in my mouth like most dentists do. He just asked if my teeth hurt and that I had a weird hook-shaped cavity. He also criticized the root canal and crown that I got previously. Something about one root still being there. The dental hygienist numbed around my tooth line with a topical gel while cleaning which I was grateful for but that was it for my visit. I was out in fifteen minutes after being told I needed to get a root canal on the tooth. I don’t think he’s wrong but I also don’t trust that I don’t have other issues. I’ll be checking with my insurance but I think I will pony up for second opinion.
