16 cups (1 gallon) apple cider
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon allspice
Pinch grated nutmeg
2 teaspoons whole cloves
1 orange
Cinnamon sticks, for garnish
2 cups bourbon, optional

When I was in kindergarten back in the 1970’s, our teacher had us making winter crafts. One was an orange with cloves stuck in it, which our teacher said was a gift to make a closet smell nice. So I put it in my closet. About a week or so later, my parents started complaining about a horrible smell from my room. My kindergarten teacher never explained that the orange would need to be removed from the closet before it started to rot. I still laugh whenever I see something like this recipe. It makes a lot more sense in cider than a closet. 🍊

I've seen the orange+cloves used as an aromatic decoration called a pomander, but I've never seen a pomander actually included as an ingredient. Baffling but I'm glad it turned out nice!

Is apple cider in the US like an apple juice kind of thing? Ive never seen it look like that before. Also that studded orange is very traditional in the uk!

Do you have to stick the cloves in the orange? Wouldn’t it work just as well to cut the orange in half and sprinkle cloves in the cider separately?

I made probably the absolute worst spaghetti the other night.
And please keep in mind I was desperate for the tomato flavor and .are the tragic mistake of not going to the store and buying sauce or at least tomatoes to make good sauce.

What you'll need to suffer like I had:
1 half of a white onion
1 can of Aldi fire roasted canned tomatoes
1 thingy of Aldi tomato paste
And as much dried pasta as it takes. Just use whatever you have in the pantry (I had half a box of fettuccine).
Boil pasta and cook however you want I guess
Cook the onion until translucent. Add the tomato products and add pasta water until it somewhat resembles sauce.
Mix cooked pasta into "sauce" and season with as much garlic and Italian seasoning as it takes to mask the taste of aluminum
Top with shredded random fridge cheese and eat 2 bites before throwing it away in horror and disgust

we used to shove oranges full of cloves at our community holiday parties when I was a kid. It was supposed to be a fun holiday activity for kids but we made it into a competition to see who could bust their orange up the most while still being able to hang it on the tree.
