Microsoft Recall Mandatory on Windows 11 24H2
So is Micrsoft Recall installed and running on every pc? It seems to be installed on 24H2 and is Enabled by default, which it should not be. Its running as a dependency in File Explorer. You can disable the Recall feature by using the commands below. Remember to use Recall, you would need a Copilot + PC. You activity and data is NOT being recorded in 24H2. Also Recall data is stored on the PC if you use Recall. My only concern is, why was RECALL enbled by default? Microsoft said it would be a opt in.

Commands:
Check if RECALL is enabled:
Dism /Online /Get-Featureinfo /Featurename:Recall
Disable RECALL:
Dism /Online /Disable-Feature /Featurename:Recall
Enable RECALL:
Dism /Online /Enable-Feature /Featurename:Recall

Not trusting Microsoft with your data doesn't mean you are paranoid, it means you are wise. Thank heavens for the regulatory power of the EU.

Wouldnt it be better just to give the option to remove the feature? Microsoft is alienating a part of its user base.

There is EVERYTHING to worry about regarding the 'Recall' Malware. It's enabled by default and the average user doesn't read up on Tech news or watch Youtube on these topics. When they need a new computer they just buy one and turn it on trusting that everything they do is theirs and won't be sent off to the mothership.

An OS is supposed to be just a means to use your hardware and software, not for corporations to spy and harvest, and it's troubling that people are just accepting it. Win10 is still awful, but people with the know-how can strip it and isolate it from Microsoft (something you should not have to do to begin with), and Microsoft caught on to this by making their malware more ingrained to their spyware OS to make it more difficult to remove.
When a company's primary focus is to design software to keep tabs on their users and keep up with the trends that combat their spying in order to counteract it... it is a warning that you are a product, not a customer.

I just don't want the Recall code on a PC of any sort.

5:45: "Without your consent..." Yeah, well when you install Windows (or any piece of software) you (have to) agree to a EULA, and data-collection is usually hidden somewhere in that gigantic wall of text and those points are often described in vague terms..

And oh, there are very good reasons to why OS-level data collection should be a lot scarier that say what websites does as the OS is able to monitor everything on your system, every keystroke, every website visited, every video clip played, every application run.... If, say, Facebook is used through a browser they can only spy on what you do in that browser session. Ofc. if you use apps provided by FB, Google, etc. to access their services you almost deserve to be spied upon....

I'm not a Linux or WIndows fundamentalist but Windows is getting worse and worse, more and more like a data harvesting software

With Microsoft who knows what they are up to. The other thing being said was that Microsoft had integrated Recall into file explorer.

Intel i9-14900KF/RX6900XT
Cinebench R23 test with Recall enabled: 36426
Cinebench R23 test with Racall disabled: 37676
Difference at 1350 points is a no brainer, get the trash out the door.
Don't belive me, do the test on you own pc

There's no privacy laws in the US to fight this stuff. So companies can pretty much do anything with your data. But MS seems hell bent on keeping it on your PC though

Since Microsoft can install Recall on your computer without your permission, they can also re-enable the feature after you have disabled it. Trust Microsoft? I don't think so.

I'm not concerned about Microsoft harvesting my data but what I am concerned about is if I'm putting in my debit card, credit card or bank information that my recall snapshots may be used by a criminal if my computer were to get infected by malware and viruses. Basically what I'm saying is a criminal could use the Recall snapshots to steal the users personal and financial information such as passwords, bank numbers, debit/credit card information and social security number.

OK, so I don't have (thank God) a Copilot+ PC, yet you're saying 'recall' will be installed with the 24H2 update, it just won't be able to 'do anything', but what about the fact as you mentioned, it will be running 'in the background' thus using system resources however little they might be.You're OK w/something you can't use (nor do most ppl even want) to be 'running in the background' regardless of if you have Copilot+ PC or not ?Isn't Windows 11 bloated enough as it is?That's a 'non-issue' to you? PS I hope MS is paying you something, at least a Burger King coupon here and there for all the excuses you come up with.

I already have Ubuntu installed as dual boot with Windows. After this, I am turning it to single boot by showing door to windows. As a lifelong windows user, I had some difficulty switching to Ubuntu. But I have been using macOS too for a while and used ti it now.
So becoming full time Linux or MacOS user should be easy. Goodbye windows

They don't even hide backdoor anymore. The backdoor is a mandatory feature.

I had this conversation in 1995. Workgroups was the LAST Windows I used daily. I realize others' workflows need Windows, so I'm not going to tell them that my choice is right for them.

Regardless of what's really happening here, the burden of proving MS is doing the right this is NOT on Windows users; it is on MS. Those of us who don't trust MS are not defective; MS earned their bad reputation.

"They wouldn't copy your data without your consent, " said the guy teaching us how to uninstall or disable a program forced onto your computer without consent...

Yet some features of Windows 11 24H2 now REQUIRE Recall installed to function. Explorer for example is an area where things can be messed up. The story of Recall is that its SPYWARE. Time to bale out of Windows.
