Check if Windows Recall is active and how to DISABLE Recall snapshots In 24H2 Update
Thanks to @franciscoborges2885 for the heads up on this one!
If you have any Tech news or items you think Our community that would like to know about, be sure to let us know in the comments.

Microsoft are sneaking in the background tasks for Windows Recall in the NEW Windows 24H2 release regardless of if you have a AI enabled computer!
This might be something completely innocent or just an overlooked bit of code, but the reality is that Microsoft need to make money, and your user data is VERY valuable.

It is really quite straight forward to check to see if the Recall software is installed and enabled.

Check If Recall Is ON or OFF
Open up the Terminal (as Admin) and type in this command
Dism /Online /Get-Featureinfo /Featurename:Recall

Depending on your preference these commands can either ENABLE or DISABLE the software.
Disable RECALL: Dism /Online /Disable-Feature /Featurename:Recall
Enable RECALL: Dism /Online /Enable-Feature /Featurename:Recall

Running a non-AI enabled PC here (Ryzen 5800X3D), and found that it was enabled. Thanks for the simple instructions on how to disable it.

Recall is a horrible thing; it is spyware packaged as a windows feature that you cannot remove, and a normal user will find difficult to run scripts to disable. wouldn't be surprised if MS got sued over this. THANK YOU for the detailed video!

"Feature name Recall is unknown". Thank goodness for that. Thanks for the extremely clear and helpful video Mike. ;)

wow how crafty that they would enable it on my PC yet there's no option right now to disable it. Thank you for your help.

Thank you. I have saved this video for when they force 24H2 on me. Hopefully the brains at MS don't make it so it can't be turned off. If they do that I'll either run an unprotected system or learn a new OS. I do not want anybody snooping through my life. I don't have anything to hide but I still do not want the world knowing my business and keeping a record of it. That is what pisses me off the most about every privacy invasion..."if you have nothing to hide, why does it bother you"?

BECAUSE IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!!!

It's also automatically enabled for my PC. I have ryzen 5 5500 and running win11 24h2. Thanks, I never knew it was enabled for my PC.

In Windows 10 Pro 22H2, go into Group Policy Editor, go to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Copilot. From there you will see the setting, "Turn off Windows Copilot" and set to "Enabled" if it's not already.

You will see this in the Help box -- "If you enable this policy setting, users will not be able to use Copilot. The Copilot icon will not appear on the taskbar either."

Windows Recall isn't on Windows 10 Pro 22H2, though apparently Windows Copilot may be. If there's a way to remove it, I'd like to know.

Amazing how effective booting Linux is in preventing Microsoft bloatware/spyware.

We're at the point were Microsoft Windows is FREEware and the mf'ers are just flat out pissing us all off!

A very big thanks to you! Very much appreciated!!
Oh by the way, whenever you have a snippet of text in your clip-board, say from copy and pasting something, all you have to do in the powershell or the regular ms-dos command prompt is to just right-click into shell.
That also works for marking snippet or commands from the powershell. Selecting the text is step one, then right-click to copy the text into the clip-board, then either right-click again into the same shell or another shell. In case you want to save the commands for later usage, open notepad for example and paste as you normally would.

I bought a Windows 11 laptop and upgraded it to Windows 10; also using XP, Win7, and Server 2003. They ALL work just fine.

My computer is definitely not running Windows Recall because I'm running Linux. But I do have a dual boot partition for Windows 11, so I'll definitely be checking this.

I in good faith paid for Win 11 and should choose what I want in or not in it. Thank you!

Thanks Mike! First time viewer here. I was under the impression that MS Recall was going to be disabled by default, that customers would have to enable the "feature, " and that it could be uninstalled if wanted. Your video shows that this was just BS. I ran the command on my PC and it was enabled, just like yours was. I disabled it and am considering going back to Linux.

The Recall feature is enabled by default on Windows Pro EDUCATION edition (English US version) too. I just turned it off when building a reference image for deployment. That's a bit worrisome they have it enabled by default as many folks will end up leaving it on without knowing.
