Here’s collegiate running back Emanual Michael RB for Air Force on a 9-part full body strength workout that emphasized contrast training via post activation potentiation. Contrast training involves performing a heavy overload exercise several minutes prior to an explosive movement that uses the same muscle group.
The goal is to achieve post activation potentiation (temporary increase in explosive power) from increased motor unit recruitment & neural drive + increased sensitivity of myosin light chains to calcium. Essentially the individual can produce more power after the heavy drill provided they have ample rest & potentiation response outweighs fatigue.
Here’s the order of the exercises we used during the workout as a means of potentiation for subsequent movements.
1.Head off Bench Press with Swiss Bar.
2. Partner Launching Explosive Incline Pushups.
3. Trap Bar Deadlifts (squat pattern).
4. Squat Jumps.
5. RDL Bent Over Dumbbell Row.
6. Single Leg Good Morning Knee Drive & Jump.
7. Explosive Catch & Release Weighted Pullups.
8. Kickstand Push Press with Slow Eccentric.
9. Split Squat Lunge Jumps.

Notice most moves use 90 deg eccentric isometrics as this maximizes motor unit recruitment, cross bridges, length tension relationship, & muscle activation, + maximizes muscle growth, strength, stability & JOINT HEALTH!!
