One of the few games where a remake actually makes sense.

Pretty much exactly what I was hoping for. Glad they decided to restart development when they realized they were straying too far from what they originally set out to do. It was the right call.

Even though it’s a “from the ground up”-remake, I love how it still feels like a 90s game

Great to see they maintain the aesthetics from the original game.

One of my favorite details is how the station rotates, so the direction of light and shadows casted through windows is always changing depending on the angle of the sun.

I think the texture being slightly pixelated is genius as it does make game feel a bit retro whilst modern at the same time

Loving the remake so far. The only thing that has me bummed is the music. YES the new music fits the tone better and is good in it's own, but my nostalgic brain misses the weird techno. I suppose this isn't even a gripe, just me being an old woman refusing to let things die.
But really, you can tell this is a project of love and it's done wonderfully.

whoever was cooking up those TASTY beats in the original deserve some credit, those were BANGERS

I never played the original. This looks nice though, I love the art style. I'll definitely check this out when available

This is exactly what people want when they ask for remakes. So many companies seem to not understand that they're remaking a game and instead do a reimagining or a reboot or make an entirely different game and slap the old name on it.
A remake should be faithful to the original.

The art style looks so unique because it looks like it has the mid-budget indie jank but the lighting looks AAA quality. I'm going to download and play the Steam demo now

They did a fantastic job. they even made the remake look a bit retro in a way.

I wish there was an option to switch the new music with the old OST. I know they're going for a more "horror" approach with the remake but the original game music is (imo) very iconic, the new soundtrack is so in the background I can barely notice it.

The texture quality is an odd choice, but I love the look of the nearest neighbour scaling. It's not just like low quality textures in other games which become blurry

One thing to note about the pipe attack animations, in both the original and the remake: the hit scan direction is based on the particular animation used. For example: If the animation shows the pipe being swung from right to left, the scan will start on the right side of the scan area (usually the screen, though in the non full screen view it does not scan all the way out to the edge of the screen) and end on the left. When the animation goes the other way, the hit scan switches direction.

1:25 In 1994 the basic intro animation was hugely impressive. I had Amiga 1200 at the time.

System Shock 2 Remake is going to look nuts when they eventually decide to get to that next.

I don't know how they managed to make Shodan even creepier this time around.

I hope that they include remastered versions of the original songs, as well as the iconic "your memo, your memo" quotes of the cyborg drones.
