System Shock is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by Nightdive Studios and published by Prime Matter. It is a remake of the 1994 video game of the same name, originally developed by Looking Glass Studios. Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.

The System Shock remake combines the cult gameplay of the iconic original game with all-new HD visuals, updated controls, an overhauled interface, and all-new sounds and music. Never-before-seen enemies, quality-of-life gameplay tweaks, a revamped hacking system, and visceral new combat options featuring a brutal dismemberment system also await players new and old.

A legion of hostile and mutated creatures — created and controlled by the delightfully villainous SHODAN herself — await players as they make their way through Citadel Station's all-new areas, flexing their puzzle-solving skills and hacking prowess to reach new sectors of the station.

Players will also encounter traps, puzzles, and secrets in their pursuit of (hopefully) defeating SHODAN once and for all. A combination of stealth, cunning, and futuristic weaponry will be required to survive. Players' puzzle-solving and survival skills will be tested.

Nightdive Studios worked closely with many of the original System Shock team members, including the voice of SHODAN, Terri Brosius.

System Shock is a challenging game, so don’t hesitate to use the reviewer's guide linked below if you need help.

As you say, System Shock is not a game for everyone. It is demanding, challenging, unapologetic and plays by its own rules. However, what Nightdive have done here in terms of making this classic game accessible and updated for modern audiences is nothing short of magic. The modular difficulty options is just one example of how much Nightdive understands how to handle this. If you don't like the idea of having to figure out the objectives, set Mission difficulty to "1". If you feel the enemies are too tough and too numerous, reduce the Combat diffculty. Don't like the Cyberspace parts? Reduce the Cyber difficulty. Nightdive has worked an absolute miracle here. This is one of the boldest, most passionate remakes ever of one of the greatest classic games of all time. I think anyone who finds the idea of this game even slightly interesting should definitely give it a try. So many ways to tailor the experience to your preferred way to play.

This game isn't hard.... It's that most games these days are way too easy. And this was how games used to be for PC's. They never held your hand, you had use your brain, you had to have patience... And get good at map reading and remembering where you need to go.

Most games, good your hand today, even on hardest as you bumble down your linear corridors...

I got the original on 9 floppy discs and it's still my favourite game of all time.

I love it.

It looks like they did such a great job on this game. I gotta finally get around to trying it.

it's good the game is super hard because nowadays too many games hold your hand but despite how hard the game is I prefer to be thrown into the deep end and learn on the fly and that's probably why I love dark souls and Bloodborne so much

Great game! I play it in darkness of my 3 level cellar (500 years old) - it adds a lot of horror mood, hehe.

Took me about 24 hours to beat the game on easiest difficulties (except combat which was set to normal), the game is BRUTAL. I think I found Dark Souls to be a little easier lol. On top of needing to navigate mazes, find obscure items, and fight enemies with very limited resources the game also likes to throw instant deaths at you that I'm certain no one could survive on their first playthrough.

You could do easy mode or make it even easier and do what Dreamcast guy did and spam quick save.

Awesome I didn't expect a review of this game, I can't wait to play it. I never played the original but I love the look and vibe I'm seeing.

Never played the 1st one, but did play System Shock 2 back in the day and recall waking up in a space ship having no idea what the hell was going on. It was a very fun game and it definitely left an impression I've never forgotten. Hopefully if this is a success, perhaps they'll redo SS2 as well. In the meantime, I'll give this one a try!

Back in 94 the game looked great. Old games use to be new games

My fave game as a kid. Didn't think it was difficult though. The start is hard, when you only have the wrench.

This is a man's game, a True retro style fps that has an intricate inventory and scrapping system, the levels are huge mazes, at first I thought I could just keep walking around but 2 hrs later and I'm back at the beginning area you actually have to use the map. I'm enjoying it despite it not being what I'm used to. The level design kind of reminds me of doom. No regenerating health, not much ammo, no sense of direction whatsoever. It brings me back
