System Shock Remake Review - The Final Verdict

System Shock is one of the most important games in history, kicking off the immersive sim as the genre we know today. The remake does an incredible job of bringing System Shock to a modern gaming audience, and while its slavish devotion to being as faithful as possible to the original might have some drawbacks—I still don’t like the maze-like layout of the game’s levels—it still does a great job of being the best way to experience System Shock.

The System Shock remake is the best way to experience the original System Shock in all of its glory. While the remake might be faithful to the original to a fault, the changes it introduces—like the modernized interface and controls—are a welcome change and make System Shock an absolute joy to play.

Sometimes all I want from a remake is the same exact game with a new coat of paint. So good on them for doing just that.

I absolutely love these graphics! This is one of the best jobs of updating a game to be right at home on modern consoles, while still managing to not only keep the spirit of the game, but the spirit of the look of the game! Which is exceptionally difficult to do.
- You figure there have been more than a few remasters and remakes over the last 5 to 7 years that led many people to say that they liked the look of the original game better!

I played the demo back in February and was left wanting more. After the march release date was cancelled and moved to May, it felt like such a long wait, but it was worth waiting for. I have 3 hours of play time so far. This game is a rare gem.

I played the demo and it was great. My only complaint was the melee combat didn't feel great. Sometimes I couldn't tell if I hit them.

Idek if I’ll ever play this game just because of time restraints, but all the love this game is getting is so refreshing to see in an age where it seems like almost every game is ass. I hope this inspires devs to make more games that are closer to 1 for 1 remakes, as long as they are honest about it in the marketing like this one was.

Unfortunately I've never played the original System shock, I love immersive sims, in particular prey from arkane (absolute masterpiece in my opinion), this remake would be the ideal opportunity to recover a classic of the genre, is it worth it?
