When I was in college I had a Japanese-Korean classmate that was having a hard time decide whether he would just drop his Korean citizenship to not be able to go to the army or go to the army and face sure bullying and heavy hazing because he was also half-Japanese. He dropped out of school because of stress. I didn't get to see him again. He was so nice too.

I have a friend who finished his military service about a year ago and the times he was able to use his phone, he would break down about how his hyungs and superiors would bully him and it broke my heart. It was verbal but he was also forced to do their chores and work. He's quite a timid guy so the fact that he got picked on was really hard on him and it was hard to know the only thing he could do about it was text and vent to me about it. Even to this day it was one of the hardest times he has had mentally.

My dad served when people had to serve for 3 years and he had his higher ups pick on him and they ended up bashing his head in with a shovel and he has lasting issues to this day and a permanently dented skull

About the idol subject, I read online that Taemin from Shinee got harassed on the showers and he has pretty bad anxiety. I’m just praying he makes it out and gets help bcs all the bullying people said he was going through sounded horrible 😭😭

Hi, I was wondering if you would be interested in the case of the missing Beijing bus 330. It is also referred to as the ghost bus and is a case from 1995 that remains a mystery to this day.
Hope all of you guys have a good year!

It’s really sad for idols. When it comes to Taemin, he was already struggling from depression and anxiety, but it got worst with the other soldiers. They were making him uncomfortable with the shower situation and his mental state worsened so he had to become a public service worker. Baekhyun managed to get his own private shower, but his sunbaenim Taemin was treated worse and he is a kpop legend. But nonetheless, I feel bad for every soldier who has to enlist🥺

My brother an American served in Korea as his heartbreak tour (1 year tour) said that Koreans had it hard as hell. He thought his training was hard but watching the Koreans he said they were practically tortured. He saw this for an entire year being over there.

Omfg!!! I had a Korean male friend that told me the worst experience he had ever gone through was being in the Korean army. He said that one of the training was that they all got woken up in the middle of the night and told to stand in a line and just jump in place. Remind you it was during winter time apparently they were naked. And he just said it was very traumatic for him. I could see how traumatizing it was for him I wanted to make him laugh. " so you guys were literally jumping naked and your things were just flapping in the air WOW ". This guy was literally laughing and rolling on the ground. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤣

The title made me remember Stephanie telling us about how her dad said when a guy said it was his birthday in the army, he got beat up 😭 And the night time watch incident lmao

As someone who's in the army I just wanna say you don't have to feel sorry about not saying thank you for your service lol. I actually prefer that ppl don't when I'm out. Out of all the ppl I see when I go out in my uniform so many say thank you and ask for a handshake or to make conversation when I'm literally just trying to grab a few groceries before going home for the day😭😭

“Korean guy’s popularity has gone up because of BTS, just general Korean guys’ popularity. What are you complaining about?” Stephanie spitting facts 💯

The mandatory military service is seriously so crazy to me. I wonder if that's also a reason people aren't having as many children? One of my FAVORITE kdramas is DP(Deserter Pursuit) which is about a pair catching military deserters! It has the perfect mix of comedy and serious/sad moments and topics. I really recommend it to anyone who want to learn more about the military service or is interested in kdramas in general. The bromance between the two male leads it's also really wholesome and funny!

The tattoo thing...like burn victims are assessed. It's called "the rule of nines." the areas of your body are labeled in % like chest is 9%, stomach 9%, groin 1%, 18% is the head and neck, etc.

In Greece we have mandatory army enlistment as well. When my brother had to enlist 3 years ago he didn't want to go but desertion was not an option because it would mess with his career opportunities here. Personally, I think mandatory army enlistment is fucked up. I understand why countries that have conflict with neighboring countries think this is necessary but imo it's not right.

Currently sulking because my Korean friend left for the army after his second semester in Japan. Although he really didn’t want to go and was thinking of extreme measures like marrying a Japanese girl and getting a Japanese citizenship. I wish he didn’t have to go bc he is a really great friend. Cant wait from him to be back

I’m not Korean so it’s easier to judge from the outside, and yes I get you have to be ready for anything when N.K is constantly looming over you but hfs, all this is just straight up torture… Like if you have a very large crowd of people actively trying to avoid doing something and coming out with trauma afterwards, you gotta change. Just what the actual fck 💀
