Let me give you the backstory.

After Henry puffed into the tunnel, the next episode, Gordon, one of Thomas’s friends, was having a malfunction and they needed an engine to pull his train. So, they let Henry out to pull Gordon’s train, and take him to the steamworks to be repaired. 🤦‍♂️
