Guys.. a lot of the time you just dive right into your workouts. If you are just getting back into working out, you especially just go straight to doing exercises. It is great that you are getting back into the gym, but I want to make sure you are well equipped to build muscle the right way. That is why I am going to give you my 5 best weight training tips, before you hit the gym. Some of these may seem obvious, but I want to make sure you hear them again because they are important. Let’s get started with my 5 best weight training tips for building muscle and workout out.

Tip #1: CORE SQUEEZE. This is a big key because it will help you protect your back. Make sure to tighten your midsection by squeezing your core when doing an exercise. This will brace your body and protect your back from injury! You want to make sure that you are not using your spine to support the weight when lifting weights and doing resistance training.

Tip #2: POSTURE & BREATHING. Make sure to stand straight and tall, and keep your shoulder back. Opening your arms up will help you naturally pull your shoulders back. Keep your head up tall, and your chin slightly in. This will help with making sure that your spine is aligned. You also want to focus on your breathing doing your repetitions. Breathe out on the contraction (concentric) and breathe in on the extension (eccentric). Doing these will help ensure that you get the most out of your workouts, while keeping your body safe.

Tip #3: THE “NEGATIVE” REP. A great way to advance your exercises without increasing the amount of resistance, is to increase the time under tension. As you are releasing the tension, do a 6 count to increase the time under tension. With it being a negative rep, it works your muscle in a slightly different way as well which will help you build up that muscle more.

Tip #4: GET YOUR REST DAYS! Listen to your body as to how many rest days you need in a week. Your muscles need time to recover, so that the damaged muscle fibers are able to heal and get bigger. That way the next time you go to the gym, you can hit the weights hard again.

Tip #5: NUTRITION IS IMPORTANT! Great bodies are not just made in the gym, they are made in the kitchen as well. Make sure to get on a diet regimen, so that you are getting enough protein, fats, and the right carbs. If you are trying to build muscle, you need to make sure you are eating enough calories as well.

Alright guys, that wraps up this video tutorial with my 5 best weight training tips for men. Make sure to subscribe to our channel for more videos on how to build muscle and get ripped.

64 and back in the gym after 30 years. Already feel better after just 4 weeks. In fact, I’ve managed to eliminate one of my T2 diabetes meds. Diet, diet, diet. Very minimal alcohol and smart intermittent fasting. Great tips on the neg reps for those of us not wanting to push joints and risk damage.

This video offers several benefits, if you pay close attention. For example, "Obstacles are what you see when you lose sight of your goals." Not only is your physical advice very helpful, so is your mental advice. Thank you so much for sharing.

I am 64 and I have been lifting for 46 years or more. People ask why I can still lift heavy doing 350 or 360 on bench and I really think its because I tend to always control the weight rather than these slinging the weights around recklessly type movements. The other thing is I don't lift heavy all the time mixing volume work at light weights into the mix of sometimes going heavy. One contrary point to to this time under tension stuff is older lifters tend to have many more tendon or connective tissue issues. By saying slow that movement down it its opening up to creating some of these other issues. Best advice from my workouts outs is plenty of stretching light weight warm up and then a good controlled resistance with shorter rest intervals. That said, on days they decide to go heavier use long rest intervals between those heavier lifts and no jerky movements.

60 year old woman. I still weight train. Still pretty solid muscles. Bone density and physicals are beautiful. I wonder if doing it earlier in life has aided me in still easily lifting

I did standing barbell curls for decades. Then intuition led me to Incline DB Curls, on a 45 degree bench. As I become fatigued, I can let my arms rest against the bench sides, and take it to as much failure as I need. 😃

Its truly amazing how good of shape an older body can be. I'm 57 and in better shape than I EVER was.
I feel sad when I think of my father and grandfather who grew old and weak before they really had to. Sadly the attitudes they had about weight lifting still persist.
1. My dads attitude "If you are going to use all that energy to lift weights, why not just mow lawns and do other work and make money too??".
2. My grandfathers attitude: "I've done physical labor all my life and I don't want to wear myself down even more". My grandfather MAY be right, to a degree. He did a lot of hard work, but then he suddenly stopped. His aches and pains were not from using his muscles all his life. They were cause by awkward lifting and contorting his body doing awkward lifts that injured his joints. Strong muscle help your joints work less.
Many of my peers today have the same attitude
