12 quick ways to Fix Premiere Pro Playback Lagging Issue.

Hello Adobe Premiere Pro video Editors, you might be wondering why premiere pro is so slow all of a sudden on your PC.

video playback lag can be a serious issue when you do not know how to fix it. so in this premiere pro tutorial i am going to show you why your premiere is lagging and how to fix it.

Premiere Pro can lag for different reasons, including insufficient RAM or too many running background Programs. Additionally, inadequate storage space, heavy video effects or transitions, an outdated graphics card (GPU) and many more can contribute to lagging.

So the first way to fix slow playback In Premiere is to upgrade your computer to meet premiere pro minimum system requirements.

The second Playback Lag solution is to Change playback resolution, simply Reduce the video playback resolution to a lower resolution, such as 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, or 1/16

Next Use proxy videos in your workflow. Sometimes we are working with high resolution footages like 4k or 8k and this might be too heavy for our computer.

Also Remember to turn off quality playback, you don't need to preview your workflow in high quality if speed is a concern.

Next Mute Global FX, Muting Global effects will turn off all effects in your sequence temporarily To run Premiere Pro smoothly.

Another way I fix laggy video playback is to Increase memory allowance dedicated to Premiere Pro cc, so dedicate a high portion of your system Ram to Adobe programs for fast playback.

Another Effect way to make faster Premiere Pro playback is to delete old media cache files. The media cache is a temporary storage space in Premiere Pro that keeps copies of media files when imported; however continuous storage overtime can lead to poor playback performance due to excessive usage of the computer hard disk space.

you can also close the lumetri scope panel and other unused panels within premiere and other running programs to give premiere better room to work smoothly. some panels and programs are heavy in function and can cause premiere pro to drag.

and you may Render a portion of your video if rendering the whole video is taking too long, and if you are still noticing a drop in playback quality, simply Save your work and Restart your pc. this frees up some space by shutting down apps that might be working in the background.

This is a great video, light bulb moment for me was when you opened Project Settings and I realised that my Mercury Playback was set to OpenGL instead of CUDA.
This is recommended for NVIDIA cards and it will force Premiere to use your GPU

Anything worked for me. It seems like my GPU rendering slower the process even more so maybe that's an issue from my GPU ? I have a 7900XTX and previously had a 2080 Super with which I had none of those problems before
