Honda CR-V Hybrid: A perfect petrol hybrid?

On paper the latest Honda CR-V Hybrid could just be the perfect family SUV, combining lots of space with low running costs and quiet driving manners from its petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain. But how does Honda's new hybrid fare in the real world? Sarah Brown puts it to the test in this CarGurus UK new car review.

The Honda CR-V is a comfortable, practical and safe option that is well equipped and good to drive. The availability of hybrid, all-wheel drive and seven-seat versions lend it further appeal, although the usefulness of the seven-seat model is admittedly limited.

Altogether, especially for those who want a straightforward and reliable SUV, it’s not a bad choice by any stretch. However, the family SUV sector is so competitive that issues such as the petrol model’s unremarkable efficiency and emissions, and the archaic infotainment system, make it hard to recommend as a go-to option.

It can also get quite expensive, as you scale the trim grades or add options, which further makes it less desirable. Consequently, while not worthy of immediate dismissal, most will find a better and more accommodating overall package in the form of rivals such as the Skoda Kodiaq or Karoq, Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, Ford Kuga or Volkswagen Tiguan.

Funny how, when I was looking for Rav 4 videos, that was the world's most selling suv. Anyway, I test drove both and the Honda seems to drive better.

I bought new CRV in 2019 petrol. I get 32 miles, sometimes little more, which is excellent for its size. Hybrids are more complicated, and not good down the road. The more simple the better. Sorry no hybrids for me. Good review though.

I can testify to the review's accuracy as I drive one. My best mpg to date is 53. Only down side is no spare wheel, just a repair kit and can only pull small caravans, not that I pull any.
