Hi I am Ann Reardon, How to Cook That is my youtube channel it is filled with crazy sweet creations made just for you. This week we look at the phenomenon that is trending on youtube, fake cooking videos. Each has an element of truth and but is simplified or missing steps to the point that it no longer works. So why do they fake it? The youtube algorithm loves these quick fast forward to music no talking videos. They seem to be creating for the algorithm only (money) with no concern for the real people watching. We will also touch on FTC requirements for content. Join me for creative cakes, chocolate & desserts, new video every Friday.

Feel like binge watching? Here's some more of my videos:

I feel so bad for Ann.. She started making content back when YouTube had a much more fair, creator-favouring system. Now she is having to fight against non-sense channels just to get a fraction of the views she once did, and make YouTube worth her time. She is one of the few on here that have stuck around simply for their love and passion of this craft, and I hope we can all appreciate that.

i love how Ann's stirring of the sweetened condensed milk steadily got angrier and angrier every time she took it out of the microwave.

Dave looked so happy when he saw how normal the cookies looked, only to be met with utmost dissapointment.

I love how not only does she debunk them, she also provides a working version of their "cooking hacks" :)

YouTube CEO Susan W: “But won’t it be hard to convince millions of people that fake videos are real?”
YouTube algorithm: “No it will be super easy, barely an inconvenience!”

I respect this lady a lot.
She is taking all the risks, bearing the pain of cleaning the mess, spending her money on buying stuff, to show us how these hacks work. Plus she is telling us the correct way to do things.
Thankyou Ann ^_^
Edit: ok so if some of yall dont agree with me its fine. i respect your opinions. What i wrote is something I felt. So please respect my opinion as well.

13:56 The Greek yoghurt bread is very similar in texture to a Native American Bred known as bannock. It’s made with Flour, Lard, baking powder, and butter. Usually more ingredients are incorporated but when baked in the oven it doesn’t rise or create air bubbles as it’s a bread without Yeast or any rising agent. It can be fried or baked I like mine cooked by a slow fire with oil or baking beside on rocks. It can go well with many things, it can be like fresh bread very nice when warmed perfectly, you can eat it with butter alone or have it with Chili or soup. Have hot hamburger on it. Eat it with a spread such as fresh Berry jam (my favourite!). Just cooked the berries on a slow fire or oven and add sugar. Very light and delicate flavour and super easy to make.
Bannock Recipe: There’s no real measurements
-1 cup Lard
-2 1/2 Cups flour
-1/2-1 teaspoons of Baking powder
-1-1/2 cup water (for fried bannock)
-Oil (for fried bannock)

Directions:
For oven baked bannock preheat oven to 375 degrees Celsius. In a bowl add you flour, create a pocket like bowl on the flour. In the flour bowl add your lard, Baking powder and incorporate it with hands. Then add your Water. And add water till it becomes a pastry dough like texture.

For fried bannock Set your stovetop to Medium heat and add oil let oil simmer for 5 minutes then put in your bannock cut into a triangle or square with 3 slits that go through the bannock. Leave it for 5-10 minutes in each side. Then enjoy fried bannock! For the Baked bannock put it out on a baking tray meant for cookies and poke your fork along it. Then leave it to cook for 45-1 hour. Then enjoy fried bannock

Berry Recipe!:
-1 Cup Berries (Blackberries, Blueberries etc)
-1/4 Cup water
-1/4 Cup Sugar
Directions:
Put your oven to medium heat and put your berries on. Let them sit until they begin to form a juice. Which takes about 5-10 minutes. Then add your water and let simmer until a jam kind of texture. Then add sugar mix and serve warm on warm bannock.

Like this so Ann can see this and make it!

"Easy caramel" actually works, but you have to boil an *unopened* jar of condensed milk in a big amount of water for a long time. It's popular in Russia and is called "varyonka" ("boiled condensed milk"). Nothing in common with taste of caramel though

It really is a shame that these channels are still able to get away with reuploading videos! It breaks youtubes terms of service, whatever that is meant to mean now ;/

The condensed milk test was so painful to watch. I can’t imagine you dealing with the smell and the mess and the cleaning. But I really appreciate you doing these debunking videos. So, thank you.

In Russia we usually boil sugared condensed milk to caramelize it. We literally call it boiled condensed milk. We just put unopened jar into casserole with 4-5 liters of water and boil it for 2-3 hours.
