Actually, a funfact about fabius is that he's technically still loyal to the emperors idea.

Fabius Bile was never a good man. He was never a moral scientist that saw his brothers as honorable soldiers to fight alongside. Even prior to Fulgrim’s discovery Fabius detected a blight in his geneseed that was common amongst members of the third legion. Space Marines found to have tested postitive for the blight were culled. Fabius sold out another untainted marine to save himself.

Fabius is not to be confused with a tragic hero fallen from grace as other chaos space marines are, such as Luther. Fabius was always a sociopathic calculating dick.
